Rehearsal Planning

Virginia, on September 17, 2020 at 2:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hey friends!

I have a question about rehearsal planning! My mom and I have organized my whole wedding on our own and I am getting a tad nervous about the rehearsal portion. Are there any other brides out there who went without on a planner that organized their wedding rehearsal?

I just don't want to miss anything important in the process. So if anyone has a format they followed or any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

I do not have a wedding planner. I haven't had my wedding or rehearsal yet, but for the rehearsal, we were basically just planning to show everyone where to stand, who they're paired with for walking down the aisle, what order they're walking in/out, when the readers should stand up/where they will go to do a reading, where the wedding party should go immediately after the ceremony, etc. I'm not planning on rehearsing the entire ceremony, mainly just the parts that involve other people.

Okay! Thanks! That's super helpful. I have all of the pairings and order ready to go, I just wasn't sure the best way to go over it all, but it seems keeping it simple is best!

I agree - definitely keep it simple! It usually doesn't take too long, especially since most people are generally aware of what to do as a wedding party member, but I think it's helpful for everyone to know exactly where to go ahead of time. It's also a good opportunity for everyone to meet each other, in case some of your wedding party members haven't had the chance to meet yet.

I 100% agree! We do have some party members that have never met. Plus, that part you know is just not fun for them so I am definitely on board with making it quick. Thanks so much for your input!

Do you have an experienced pastor or officiant for your wedding? I would lean on them heavily for the flow of things in the actual ceremony. I would nominate a mistress of ceremonies if you haven’t yet, a friend not in the bridal party or an aunt is usually a good person. They will tell people when to go down the aisle, and at what time. You don’t want people to wing it the day of if you don’t have a coordinator.

Our officiant isn't coming to the rehearsal, but is the ceremony. I have reached out to him for the general flow, and one of my bridesmaids is in school for event coordinating. She's been a huge help agreeing to take it on, but this would be her first event like this, so I am trying to get a good idea of what's needed as well. Since posting this, I have also done some research into what order things could/should go in and started a plan for that! I absolutely don't want to wing it. So it really looks like all I'm missing from what you're suggesting is someone outside of the party to help keep people moving, which is totally smart. Thanks for your help!

Are you planning to hire a day of coordinator? I would strongly reccomend you do unless your venue has an event coordinator because you and your mom will be way to busy the day of to take care of a lot of these little things. Our venue had an event coordinator, and she ran our rehearsal.

We are not. We rented a private cabin and with it being so close, we don't have a plan to hire anyone else. I have delegated some of it out to a bridesmaid and she's been a huge help. I am really just looking more for things not to miss when we are finally to the rehearsal. But between this chat and a little side research, it seems doable with the people we already have involved! Thank you for your input!!
