Rehearsal Dinner. What is the point?

Is there actually rehearsing going on? Is it necessary to spend another couple of hundred dollars on another fancy dinner? Please help. Thanks

I figured, it was more in jest.

But if you know people up this way, you tell 'em to stop by... I need my husband in a job for the long run! LOL

Ooh Soonyee, your rehearsal dinner looked like a blast!

I wish we would've thought of something like that but, our venue has on-sight catering and offer to do rehearsal dinners so, that's what we're doing.

I think rehearsal dinners are a nice way to thank your wedding party and parents and also have a little more time to spend with them. For both my sister and brother's weddings, the rehearsal dinner was one of my favorite times. Everyone was relaxed and had a great time visiting.

It's kind of like when you get to church on Christmas Eve (hear me out). All of the stores are closed, so even if you forgot something you can't do anything about it. It's best to just sit back, relax, and get in the spirit!

According to FMIL it is a way to thank your bridal party and OOT guests for coming to the wedding. I'm so happy they're throwing it and not us. I was just going to do fried chicken after we rehearsed and have everyone help finish decorating!!! Lol.

I won't go into the long and stressful details, but let's just say that, due to FI's family being from a completely OPPOSITE culture, the wedding will probably go up in flames if we don't do a rehearsal. I also hope there will be copious drinks at our RD, for the same reason. x-P

I think mostly it's just tradition.

it doesn't have to be pricey. I was at one where they just did set up for the wedding, did a few run throughs on the ceremony then grilled burgers and stuff. everyone had a blast.

Almost no wedding ceremony needs a rehearsal. It's walking and standing. That being said, a time to spend extra hours with your BP and OOT guests is really nice.

Do something casual, inexpensive and short.

The dinner is also a chance for the bridal party and family members who don't know each other as well to get more comfortable with each other and relax

We are doing a budget-friendly backyard bbq after the rehearsal because a lot of our guests are coming from out of town and our two families really don't know each other (different socioeconomic and religious backgrounds) so I chose a casual get-together so everyone can just hang out and enjoy.

Typically invited are the entire wedding party + sign. others and immediate out of town relatives.

Mrs T - it gets so bad sometimes that I dream about Chinese food - pathetic but it happens. I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks the food there is different than everywhere else.

Our rehearsal will be the night before the wedding at my church (catholic wedding) and my priest had offered us the churches basement for our informal rehearsal dinner. We'll just order pizza and finger foods and that's when we'll give our BP their gifts. I also liked the idea because we don't have to drive to another location to eat.

We're doing a rehearsal and then RD at a restaurant.. I figure it's a chance for the extended families to meet and a chance to hang out with the closest people before the wedding.

I agree with you. I do not see a point. It's just an extra expense. We are having a DW so we will have a "rehearsal" dinner, nothing fancy/expensive just to welcome everyone.

They can be as fancy or casual as you like. Personal preference. We are old fashioned, so we are having something a little more formal, but not going to break the bank

We are renting a suite at a baseball game and serving hot dogs, nachos and chicken fingers. We wanted the bridal party and families to hang out and have some fun before the wedding.
