Rehearsal dinner cookout? Hmm...

So my older brother got married last weekend and had his rehearsal dinner at a steakhouse. Our dad footed the bill for 40 people and it was about $2,800. Granted I am down for a cheaper restaurant, I also like the idea of hosting a cookout at Dads house instead. It's a huge house, large yard and lots of space. We even have a fully furnished lower floor/basement with a game room and pool table, full bar, etc. I'd much rather save money and just have a cookout instead of going to a restaurant. Is that tacky? Or would it be okay? Mom also wants to make jello shots and is loving the idea, lmao.

Go for it!!! I wish that we could do that for our RD, but we live 2 hours away from our venue and all of our family.

My mom is hosting rehearsal dinner at home next week. We're doing a nacho bar. Our rehearsal dinner will have maybe 20 people, so I think if you stick to something small it should be okay. I feel bad that she has to do all that cooking but it was her choice and she really wanted to host.

We are thinking of doing the same having a cookout, with games and etc. One to help the wedding party relax and get to know one another, as well as we don't want to spend a lot of money on a rehearsal dinner.

No problem having it at your house, but I would have it catered, just to ease the burden on your parents/whoever would be cooking. It sounds like fun!

I think that sounds WAY fun! I love the idea of a casual, fun rehearsal dinner versus something more formal. If anyone is concerned about having to put in a lot of work, you could have sides and desserts catered in, and have your fam do the grilling, or you could just have the whole thing catered in, if your family has a preferred local BBQ joint?

I think that sounds fun. BBQ catering is pretty inexpensive if your family wants to enjoy the party and not cook the whole time.
