Registering for a charity...wording advice

Mrs. A & J, on May 2, 2014 at 10:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I'm not asking for opinions on whether this is tacky/cheesy etc. I love the idea and I'm only asking for advice on how to word this.

Our registry info will be on our website. We will register for a few things at target or BBB or something. However, I would also like to include a link to our local animal shelters wish list. I would love to start our married life by walking into the shelter with a huge pile of items to donate! We are big animal lovers and this is very fitting for us. I do want the items to come to us first so we can bring everything together. Plus we can keep track of who got what for thank you cards. What would be a good way to word that on our website?

Something like this... "Now that we have each other we have everything we need, so no gifts please! But if you must, please make a donation in our name to this charity"

I would write something along the lines that because of your love for animals, you have included registry items from the wish list of your local animal shelter. I would also include that these items will be donated in the guests' name after the wedding.

So you want to collect items for the shelter rather than donations? How about something like "FH and I are huge supporters of the local animal shelter. It would make us so happy and proud to be able to present the shelter with some of the items they need, because we have been blessed with everything that we need"... something like that. You will have to clarify if you want items or donations, though.

I think it's great. Many shelters, like SEER (the shelter that takes care of a lot of hurricane victim animals at the Jersey Shore) has an amazon registry. They can go right there and the donations are recorded.

Celia, that's exactly what ours has, an amazon wish list. We would prefer the items to come to us so we can walk and make a big donation (right in time for Christmas!) But of course any donation in any way would be great. I wonder though....if my guests use the shelters amazon list, will we have any way to see the donations/gifts if they don't come to us first? We want to make sure we don't miss any for thank yous Smiley smile

What do you think of this line: please consider using MCAS's wish list as our alternative registry. ? This is going to sound terrible...but we are hoping for gifts/shelter items so we're trying to offer options without saying no gift is needed. Of course its not mandatory and I love my guests no matter what...I'm guess I'm just trying to find a nice way to say "hey all...if you're gonna buy us plates, please buy heartworm meds instead!" Lol.

I love the idea but just a quick thought to add. Often times nonprofits have access to wholesale pricing and other connections that make a dollar stretch a lot further than paying retail price for items. Because of this, it might be good to consider cash donations rather than actual items. Although I too think it would be awesome to show up with a huge basket of stuff Smiley winking

You could have your "Wishing Well" be an item in need for your local animal shelter.

Andrea I think we're soul sisters. Instead of wedding favors, we are having our dog photographed in a tux with a sign that says thank you and a notification that in honor of our wedding, we have made a donation to the animal shelter we got Alfie from!

I appreciate any gifts that you would like to share

But we’ve decided that the animals at ________ shelter need care.

Giving me a gift on this special day, is one that I really would like to share with a stray.

This shelter is close to our hearts, please let us take the gifts to those close to our hearts.

Any dog or cat items would be awesome and appreciated gifts.

@ Michelle, I love the poem Smiley smile Thank you!

@ Koch, your furbaby is precious!! Of course, here is mine haha. Actually the 2 in the center are mine and FH's, the surrounding ones are all our fosters who we have found homes for over the last year!

Check with the shelter. Sometimes, non-profits will send you a card saying that Mr. Smith made a donation in honor of your wedding. Then you would know to send Mr. Smith a TY card.
