Regarding wedding invitations and engagement announcements

Sierra, on January 1, 2020 at 7:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
How many of you have done both engagement announcements and wedding invites. Are save the dates the same as a wedding invite? What is the difference? Is there a requirement in doing engagement announcements or would you say that sending out wedding invites is enough??

We did not do engagement announcements- everyone basics knows so we thought it was pointless to send out formal “announcements “ about it —- we will be sending dave the dates before the invitations though

I’d say order of sequence would be engagement announcement, save the date and then invites. Traditionally an engagement announcement would be either sent out or put in the newspaper but I personally think technology and social media took away the need for that. I think announcements are classy but definitely not needed. Save the dates go out a while before the invitation and are not the same. They’re sent to all of your guest (don’t send one to someone your not intending to invite) to give them an advance notice but the formal invite follows as the wedding gets closer. I think save the dates are ideal for peak time of the year ( summer wedding or holiday weekends) but once again, not needed especially if you’re on a tight budget! I think overall the only thing you really need is the wedding invitation.

Engagement announcements aren't a thing, unless you're talking about posting in a newspaper or on social media. Individually mailed announcements are for wedding announcements, which are usually sent out immediately after the wedding (if done at all, which they usually aren't these days).

We did not send engagement announcements. We sent save the dates, which are typically sent 6-8 months before your wedding letting your guests know basic info (date, location, wedding website), and that an invitation will follow. Then we sent invitations around 6 weeks before our wedding. Invitations are typically sent 6-8 weeks before your wedding with RSVP’s due around 2 weeks before your final headcount is due.
