Reception starts at 7:30pm should i go heavy appetizers for a micro wedding 20 guests

Rosilus, on April 19, 2020 at 12:50 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hello all I am getting married in july. I wanted to know with the time of my wedding starting should i go heavy appetizers with dancing and cocktail or buffet small dinner? I know this seems crazy for such a small group but i am having a traditional feel for a smaller crowd and I dont want restaurant reception at all. In the invitation I stated food, dance, music, and laughter

I would weigh out the costs because heavy appetizers can end up costing the same as a meal

I agree - it may be financially better to serve a meal than heavy apps - they add up fast!

With 20 people, a full meal might end up being about the same price as a lot of appetizers. It also depends on what the menu is, and how big the appetizers at your venue are.

    Do you have the options?

7:30 is still dinner time, so go full dinner. Furthermore, what time does the ceremony start? You need to consider from the beginning of your overall event, not just from the beginning of the reception.

Heavy appetizers are very filling and caterers will provide/recommend 8-10+ pieces per person as opposed to the 2-3 per hour per person for a cocktail hour before a plated meal. If guests can't make a meal out of that and go home hungry, that's their fault. Many people serve heavy appetizers as dinner with no problem.

7 pm is firmly dinner time, so whichever way you go make sure you serve enough food for a full meal. Almost invariably that's going to be more expensive as heavy appetizers because of the labor involved, if cost is a factor.
