Reception Side Dishes

Sable, on February 7, 2017 at 12:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25

Hey y'all, I'm getting married in October and I'm having some trouble picking out what side dishes I want! For the Buffett we are having beef tenderloin served with au jus on the side, fried chicken and shrimp and grits. My caterer gave me a long list of sides but I can't seem to make my mind up, I know id love to have oven roasted rosemary potatoes but I need to pick some other sides please help!!!

Thanks!!

Do you have a non meat option available? If not, you should look into it.

You'll need at least two vegetable sides. Do you have any vegetarian options for protein?

I think potatoes is a safe bet. I would also do something like seasonal grilled veggies (string beans, peppers, etc.)

Can you post the list here? I did with my beer options and the forum was able to narrow it down.

@Op I know this is going to seem persnickety as hell and I apologize in advance, but something in me is totally unable to stop correcting people when they say "with au jus" - "au" means "with", so "with au jus" is "with with sauce/gravy/drippings".

Again, sorry. I seriously wish I could stop doing that.

Anyway, rosemary potatoes sound great! I think a green veggie is a logical second side. Green beans would be good, or broccoli, or okra.

I'd do roasted potatoes and green beans. generic so the majority likes them.

Damn though I could get full off that list of side dishes.

How many are you allowed to choose? Sometimes I'm disappointed when there are only two sides.

You need a vegetarian entree, which is why I asked the above question. Appetizers don't equal a meal.

"Sorry guys, you don't get a meal. Go eat those appetizers and suck it up".

Ok, out of that list I would choose the green beans, the field peas, the broccoli salad or the collard greens for my veggie. They don't seem to offer the rosemary potatoes - did you leave them off? If not, the oven roasted reds might be a good substitute.

If you have any vegetarians coming, you'll need a vegetarian MAIN. Not just apps and sides, but a main course for vegetarians. Talk to your caterer. A lot of them do a silent option for vegetarians that is only available for those guests who request it.

ETA: If you have a third side get yams. Because, dammit, yams are just so GOOD.

I want yam curry for dinner tonight now.

How many can you choose again? If you only have 3 and like potatoes I would choose the potatoes and then 2 veggies like green beans and corn or broccoli salad and green beans. If you can do 4, I'd do 2 starches like rice and potatoes and then 2 of the veggie options.

Do you have any vegetarians coming? Delfinas suggestion would be great if you do. I know for a fact I do not have any vegetarians coming to my wedding.

Can I hijack this thread for a second? I don't want to create a new thread but while we're on topic of vegetarian options.... which would you pick?

Cheese Ravioli sauce with sun dried tomato and herb cream sauce

    or

Pasta primavera with pesto cream, fresh array of vegetables and chopped basil

You could do the potatoes, green beans and collard greens? And yes just talk to your caterer she may be able to do something for your vegetarian guest!
