Reception playlist to create myself & have on computer (no dj)

Anonymous, on April 23, 2012 at 11:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

What is the best way to create a reception playlist (to include cocktail time, dinner music, first dance, dance & slow dance music, cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc)? I would want it categorized on my computer for easy one click access. There won't be a DJ. Has anyone done this themselves and what advice can you give? What is the cheapest / easiest way to get songs on the computer ( itunes?, cds?, where to buy a variety of music, etc). Not sure where to start. Thanks!!

Try downloading ClipExtractor. It's $20 but you can download any song from youtube and a few other sites. And there is no limit to how many songs you can download! I transfer them all to itunes and they work great.

If you create playlists on iTunes, it has a feature that automatically adjusts the volume of different songs so they are the same (that way one doesn't come on blasting), and another that lets you fade songs into each other, so you don't have that slight gap between songs.

I also suggest individual playlists for each event -- first dance, bouquet toss, etc., even if it's one song. That way it won't automatically start into the next section, ya know?

Reenski I didn't know Itunes did that, but I will see if I can figure it out. Jennifer I also am doing my own music. Just downloading songs on itunes and I got a speaker called the tailgator. It's pretty loud, for what we need it should be fine. It also comes with a microphone. Good luck to u

For the highest sound quality, check out the CD with the song you want at your local library and upload it to Itunes. The louder you play the music, the more you can hear poor quality from digital conversion.

We are having a friend create the playlist (though we have a lot of input into what's being played). That way I won't be tired of hearing the songs by the time my wedding rolls around Smiley smile

Glad you started this thread; I'm leaning towards doing music ourselves like this.

I always forget about the library for this kind of stuff. Great idea!

I learned something the other day will DIY planning my wedding music. In itunes you can control click on individual songs, then select get info, then options to edit the start and end time of certain songs. ie if they have a long silent pause at the end.

Thanks, @Just Reenski "I also suggest individual playlists for each event -- first dance, bouquet toss, etc., even if it's one song. That way it won't automatically start into the next section, ya know?" This is probably the best suggestion.

We, so far, are planning to use Spotify as FH pays for it. Will be hooking into the venue's sound system. But we will need to find someone to man the computer!
