This is our story as told by Dan, so sweet.
Mary and I met in December 2005. We started talking regularly, hitting it off immediately. I liked her voice and the way she responded to me. I'm not a big talker by nature, especially over the phone, but I liked talking to her. We made each other laugh and I found myself looking forward to talking to her each night. After a month or so she says to me "do you want to see me?" I say "how, I don't have a cam." Mary informs me that I don't need one to see her. She does. 'Accept' pops up on my computer. I click on it and there she is. Cool. As we talk I'm looking at her and can't help but realize that this girl isn't just pretty, she's absolutely beautiful. Not only is she smart, funny, interesting, cool and fond of me. She's a 'stunner' as well.
One night as we're talking away I noticed a man fall behind her. Yes, just as I described it. There she is, talking away and a guy falls behind her and hits the floor. The look on her face was priceless. I say "Mary, there's a guy behind you laying on the floor." I'm assuming he's laying on the floor, I can only see Mary but he hasn't gotten up just yet. She tells me that she's so embarrassed and then explains that she's separated, living in her house, with her daughter but has her ex staying there in a separate bedroom to help with the bills. She says that she was afraid to tell me because I would most likely think that they couldn't just live together without something going on. I was laughing when she told me this and told her that I completely understood. I was in the exact situation. One apartment, two bedrooms, one son, one ex, separate lives. This crazy, complicated, little situation brought us closer together as we could laugh at what most people couldn't believe or understand.
Time to get out the map.
I said to her sometime in March that she wasn't that far away. 9 hours away as a matter of fact. Easter was coming and I had 4 days off. She happily agreed to us meeting and the date was set. I figured that at the very least, it was a place that I had never been to and even if things didn't work out, well, it was another journey under my belt. You see I love to ride and any day on the road is a good day to me. So here I was planning my trip to Indiana.
April, Good Friday, I pull into her driveway. Garage door is open but nobody has come out. Mary's out in the country, not a lot of neighbors but my bike's not quiet and I'm thinking surely, she should have heard me. I get off the bike and walk back to the mailbox, yep, right address. Head to the bike and start removing my gear, maybe she's in the washroom. All of a sudden the front door opens, her head pops out, she smiles, looks at me and then goes right back in the house and closes the door. Hmmm, maybe she's changed her mind. Remember, she hasn't seen me on cam. Just the pic's I've sent her. Just then the garage door leading into her house opens up and there she is, still smiling and this time I'm invited in. Apparently she was brushing her teeth and feeling a little nervous. Can't blame her, here was this 6'2 240 lb biker that she hadn't met in person yet standing in her garage who she has agreed to let spend the weekend. Not your everyday situation.
I think we were both a little nervous. We stood in her kitchen, talking casually, feeling each other out. The air seemed to have this electric feel to it and before too long we kissed. We stood there in her kitchen for what seemed like forever, kissing. Soft kisses, stopping to look into each others eyes only to kiss again. The attraction was immediate and intense. We went out that night with one of Mary's dear friends acting as our chauffeur. We danced, drank and laughed till closing time. Went riding the next day and were sitting front row at a comedy club by nightfall. The weekend was a wonderful one and as I stood in her driveway, bike's engine growling away. I looked into her eyes and could see the pain of someone who's found something she's been looking for and is afraid that she's losing it all at the same time. My heartstrings had been pulled. I looked into her beautiful green eyes and told her that I would be back. I kissed her once more and rode off.
It's been 5 years now. We see each other on average about 8 times a year. She loves the wind in her hair as much as I do (I know, that's funny). We share our dreams, our sorrows and our love for each other. We have rode to North Carolina and travelled along the Blue Ridge Parkway and thru the Tail of the Dragon in Tennesee. We've rode to Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach, Florida and to the Sturgis Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. We've gone camping in Kentucky and with our kids in Indiana. We've rode all over the State of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky and we've rode thru the Okanogan valley and the Rocky Mountains where on top of Mount Sulphur in Banff I proposed to my beautiful bride-to-be. With the glory of 5 mountain ranges before us she said yes. I am a lucky man.
Well that's it, this is our story. There has been so many miles travelled by both of us to make this work. Something so strong can't be ignored. So many wonderful things have happened that haven't been mentioned. 5 years worth. I can't wait for the next mile.
So he is my dream man and I'm sure you can see why. I love u baby
