Reception or no?

Terra, on June 2, 2019 at 6:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
If you got married or are getting married at the courthouse, did you have a recpetion or not? If you did, was it a dinner cookout? How big or small? I want all the details!

This will be my second marriage. My first one was in a courthouse. There was very few of us (maybe like 5) and so afterward we just went to Dave & Buster's. It just depends on how many people are going to be there and if you feel like spending money for an actual reception or having a cookout/reservation somewhere.

Were not getting married at the court house (my FH wanted to initially because he thought it’d be cheaper), but in CO we can solemnize our own marriage and would rather do it somewhere in the mountains. We are just having immediate family with us at the ceremony, under 20 guests. Following the ceremony we are planning for everyone with us to go out to dinner at a local restaurant. We are also planning to have a bigger local reception later to invite our friends and family to celebrate with us.

If we had decided to go the court house route, we were talking about having a catered reception with all our friends and family (approx 75 guests) at a local hall.

My FH's dad just remarried and had a courthouse wedding. They had a big BBQ for all of their kids and grandkids the next day. We had so much fun!

My friend is just going to be having a dinner with the immediate families on both sides after their courthouse wedding.

My parents did that when they got married and after, they had their reception at Olive Garden with their families together. It was a simple, small reception because they told everyone after they got married that they did get married because it was on a whim.

We are really into hiking so we are hiking to one of our favorite spots with our parents, photographer and videographer on June 14th for a ceremony. Directly after we get married we are going on a "minimoon" for the weekend. My mother in law is getting our invitations printed that will have a picture from the ceremony with details for the reception. Kind of like "We got married come and celebrate" invitation. On August 10th we are having our reception and will play the video at the reception of our ceremony. We are self catering also, chicken over a fire, baked beans, mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad along with cocktail appetizers. I liked the idea of splitting it up because I wanted to focus on my FH after our wedding and on August 10th we can focus on our family and friends.

Hi Terra! Do you plan on hosting a reception? If so, what size celebration will it be?

We plan on having a "wedding celebration" the weekend after we exchange vows at the courthouse. It's going to be a very casual get together, but we expect around 75-90 people because of my large family.
