Reception Dress Ideas?

Melissa, on July 20, 2021 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Hello...

I'm considering a reception dress. Has anyone done this? What are the rules?
Is there a specific color? Do you have to wear white?Should it mirror your gown?
I just want to be comfortable later.

There are absolutely no rules when it comes to what to wear for your ceremony and/or reception! Many brides wear white, though there are brides who choose other colors as well. Pick whatever dress you feel most comfortable in - any color, shape, and length that you want.

What Lisa said! Wear what you feel comfortable in!

I bought a second wedding dress to change into for the reception. I've seen brides change into an all white sweat suit look with white tennis shoes and thought that was cool and comfy!

Wear whatever you want, but I still would want to stand out as the bride. My reception outfit is glitter gold.

It’s very common in Asian cultures. Outside of that, it is rare. As expensive as wedding dresses are and the fact that people only get one wedding day and the majority of venues have limited time frames, more brides than not actually don’t change into a reception dress. However you can do whatever you want.

I'm changing into a reception dress (red, slinky, sexy) just long enough to do my very elaborate, spectacular Rumba-into-Argentine Tango First Dance. Then I'm going right back into the wedding dress, only because I love it so much and want to get as much war-time as possible in it for photos. BUT I know the majority of brides nowadays stay in their reception dress, and it's usually way more comfortable than the wedding dress, but still beautiful. It definitely can be any color. Main thing: Wear comfortable shoes! I've seen brides wear cute decorative slippers, flip-flops, or even painted sneakers with the wedding date and their names on them.

There are no rules about this that I am aware of (although certain cultures may have rules). Most brides choose a reception dress as a chance to change into something more comfortable or an opportunity to have a second bridal look that is very different from their first bridal look.

I had a reception dress - it was more comfortable than my ceremony dress but not as flattering on me (in my opinion) and I kind of wish I hadn't changed at all. If you do get a reception dress I would recommend findings something you feel comfortable and confident in, and that you absolutely love. Don't settle on your second dress any more than you settled on your wedding ceremony dress!
