RECEPTION ATTIRE..KEEP WEDDING DRESS OR CHANGE OUTFIT?

Brittany, on February 16, 2015 at 2:39 PM

I have been to weddings where the bride did not change outfits for the reception and I have also been to others where the bride changes into a really nice gown. What is your opinion?

I don't get changing dresses ... You spend so much money on a dress you love to only wear it part of the day? Doesn't make sense to me. I'm staying in my dress until my husband takes me out of it Smiley winking haha

It's not that common yet to change into 2nd wedding dress... but in Asian weddings, we even change into 3rd...

only day to wear big white ball gown

also only day that if u change into 2nd dress, nobody will judge about it.

My dress was a two piece and I swapped skirts at the end of the reception - with only about 20 minutes left until our exit. I did this mostly to show off a second pair of shoes I originally purchased for the entire day, but later realized were too tall to wear for that many hours. Changing into a less restrictive short skirt made our exit a bit easier, but I was also of the mindset that I wanted to wear my wedding gown as long as possible.. so I compromised with myself Smiley winking.

I, personally, think its silly to change. I paid all that money for a dress, I wore it all night! Even to the bar after! However, I also picked a dress specifically for looks and ease of wear.

We are having a destination wedding and will be with all of our friends after the reception ends at 11. Our wedding is at a vineyard in the Texas hill country so I'll be changing from a custom lace gown to a blush tulle midi skirt, denim button down top, and boots to wear out with our guest after the reception. But I won't be changing until the very end as I don't want to miss any of the reception fun.

I'm wearing mine all day and night. It's the only time I'll get to wear it.

I'll be in my dress from the very beginning, all the way until we arrive in our hotel room after everything is done! My mom and I customized and embellished my dress together, so it's very special to me. And also, it helps that we only have 2 dances planned, our first dance, and my father/daughter dance. The rest of the music will just play during dinner. I'm actually more concerned about SITTING in my dress than anything else, LOL! I haven't really sat in it at all. Too late now, my mom has the dress and the wedding is in 2 weeks. Smiley smile

I'm staying in my dress all night! I don't see the point in a reception dress, personally- I can wear a party dress anytime! A wedding dress once Smiley smile

My opinion is the bride should do whichever makes her happy, and I bet many a groom wishes he could change out of his tux! I, personally, wore my heavy, long dress the whole time-- I LOOOOOVE my dress and would wear it every day if the wouldn't cart me off to the loony bin!

I'm wearing an heirloom wedding gown for the ceremony. It's near 80 yrs old and I am not risking tearing or staining it during the reception. I'm not so graceful sober, much less with champagne. However, if I were investing a new dress with no sentimental history behind it, I would likely wear it the entire time. Nothing would ruin my day or make me feel worse than being the one bride who destroys the family gown.

I'm spending most of the reception in my dress but I did get a reception dress for the end so I can move around more easily. However I only spent 60 dollars on my reception dress and got my wedding dress on sale so I don't feel any remorse at all for changing

I’m definitely going to change. I just don’t want any chance of somebody stepping on my dress or spilling something on it.

I realize that I will be accused of being "extra" (which honestly for me, is not a bad thing), but I will be having FOUR outfits--a wedding ceremony/mass gown, a Vietnamese ao dai for the reception dinner, a shorter white party dress for dancing, and a white jumpsuit for the afterparty.

I'm Vietnamese, and it is customary to have at least 2 outfits for the bride. The most I've seen is 3, but I decided that I really wanted a wedding jumpsuit. Also my wedding gown was only $280, which isn't even close to being the most expensive dress I've ever worn. So I have no qualms about ditching it for my more special, custom-designed Vietnamese ao dai.

I had this same dilemma! I ended up choosing a dress that is a fitted sheath dress and also bought a detachable ball gown bottom. I’m wearing the ballgown for the ceremony and then the sheath for the reception.
