RECEPTION ATTIRE..KEEP WEDDING DRESS OR CHANGE OUTFIT?

Brittany, on February 16, 2015 at 2:39 PM

I have been to weddings where the bride did not change outfits for the reception and I have also been to others where the bride changes into a really nice gown. What is your opinion?

I'm not paying a ton of money on a dress just to wear it for 1 hour!

I'm wearing my wedding gown to the ceremony and reception - This baby cost my sister a lot of money so i will probably wear it for a few days after the wedding too!

I'm going to look for a short, lace reception dress. I wanted a lace wedding dress and I ended up with a tafetta gown. I'm wearing my favorite boots and I want to show them off on the dancefloor. Plus, my dress was under budget by $500, so I think it's within reason for me to purchase another dress Smiley winking

I personally don't like when brides get changed, unless it was in/out of a dress that was worn for sentimental reasons(mothers dress, etc) I kept my dress on all day and hated to take it off that night

After what I spent on it... I need to wear that thing for the next year lol! I liked the idea of a short flirty dress and was trying to justify it. Then I remembered - my bachelorette! So that's what I'm going to get a second (like under 200 bucks and needs to match shoes I already own) dress

Victoria- Exactly! I'm more than fine wearing it for the entire reception, but since we're leaving the reception space and gonna hit up several other places like we would any other night going out, I can just see the dress getting a) in my way b) in other people's way and c) dirty.

I never understood the changing dress thing. I picked out a dress that I would be comfortable in all night long, including dancing. The amount of money you spend on a beautiful wedding dress, and you're going to change out of it halfway through the night. *shrugs* not my thing.

Me neither Margaret and others....(except for my Chinese brides who very often change into a traditional dress). If I had spent thousands on a dress I couldn't wear to work (I actually could since i work from home, lol) damn straight I'd wear it as long as possible.

I was completely against it - my dress came to $1,300 with tax - and then I tried the thing on in my size. The thing is huge. It is heavy, and I am fat. I will be sweating like a beast throughout the meal, toasts, pictures, and father/daughter/first dances and all that, but then I am changing into something lighter so I don't pass out in a pile of sweaty organza. I bought a dress for $49 on one of David's Bridal's big sales, so I don't feel terribly guilty about it, but I see both perspectives now.

I'm staying in the same dress. I can see changing it for a DW, like a friend of mine did, but not for the type of wedding we're having.

I'll be wearing my wedding dress the entire night and not having a different reception dress. i personally love my dress and want to wear it as long as possible. i know people switch dresses now but for me it's like you spend so much time looking for THE dress... then you change out of it... that doesn't make sense to me you know? so i am not, but i think if you want to do a second one and it makes you happy then go for it! do what will make you happy! it's your day!

I will be changing dresses for cultural reasons. In different cultures it is not unusually to have different dresses. I will be wearing a sari to my ceremony and a then changing into a more western style wedding dress for my reception.

I certainly see benefits both ways. Personally, I have been dreaming of a wedding gow since nursery school, when all I would play is "Let's get married"-- my mom was even voted 'youngest moth of the bride to be". So, as you could guess, I wore my wedding gown the whole time. Yes, it was hot. It was hard to dance in, even with the bustle-- but I LOVE that dress, and I haven't worn it since, so I'm glad I made the most of it that day.

This is one of the reasons I am going with as dress that is light and not huge a puffy. I am not going to spend much on my stress but I am also not going to change to something more flashy for just the dance.

I'm not going to change. Spend too much money on a dress to wear once, FH will have a hard time getting me out of it! Lol....

Personally, I don't see why anyone would want to take their dress off sooner than they need to. Not knocking people who have reception dresses; I just know I'll love wearing mine too much.
