Reasonable amount of time to wait for venue to get in touch?

RoseSoda, on November 12, 2019 at 2:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So I'm a little frustrated right now. There's a ceremony venue I really love, my parents were married there and it was recently restored and reopened. It is a little pricey though, so I would need to talk to the venue coordinator about some things and see if it's viable for my fiance and I. But getting in touch with this woman is proving to be difficult.

First, I stopped by her booth at a wedding expo on Oct 27. She wasn't the most talkative compared to the other vendors who were upbeat and ready to pitch their services, but I understood it wasn't the best place to get into details so she took down my email and said she'd send me some info by the following day. Never did. Understandable, she's busy. Worth noting, though, this woman owns/runs/promotes three other businesses in addition to this chapel.

I waited a week and then emailed the chapel's generic email the following Monday (Nov 4). When I got no response by that Thursday, I tried her direct email. Still no response by the next Tuesday (today), so I called and had to leave a voicemail. At this point if I haven't heard anything by Thursday, I'm thinking I may try to get ahold of the chapel's owners, a local couple who own some other businesses in town.

Am I being overly hasty or is this really unprofessional?

It is definitely unprofessional. My fear would be that, even if you get in touch with the owners and book your ceremony, she may be the one there to coordinate your wedding day.

It’s unprofessional. If there’s a reason it won’t work out, such as already being Booked, then she needs to let you know right away.

Totally unprofessional. If you get in touch with the owners I would want to know if she’s your coordinator if you book the venue, because that would concern me.

I had a great venue ghost me. I moved on bc I didn’t trust them to handle my wedding anyway if that’s how they were going to act.

Definitely unprofessional. In my case, anything over 2 days warrants a second email because i know my venue staff are on the ball. Even with allowing for the concessions of her workload, anything over a week is unprofessional.

Many venues require decor approval and other such things. You need to know that someone will respond to you within a reasonable time frame (i.e. 1 week), especially if your wedding gets closer. For me, any vendors that do not respond within a week with an acknowledgment at minimum, especially for booking, get nixed and i move on to another vendor.

So I'm not crazy at least, haha. If this particular venue didn't mean a lot to me I would not have held on this long for sure. Luckily the coordinator did get in touch with me last night and we've scheduled a phone call for today. But I am going to be frank and ask if she is actually going to be available enough to take on a client.

I wouldn't take this vendor on. My biggest red flag when vendor shopping was a lack of communication, slow communication, or poor communication. It will continue to be a headache until your wedding day- don't do it.

I agree. Too too bad given the sentimental connection.
