One of my closest friends from high school is now my bridesmaid, and I have felt like she has criticized my wedding dress choices and plans. I went to David's Bridal in January and fell in love with this lace sleeve dress. And then I went to a boutique yesterday to try on more dresses, and I took my mom and other best friend who is also another bridesmaid (but she is a lot more quiet). Anyway, I came out of the boutique with nothing because I didn't love the dresses, I thought I loved one of them but the pictures were not flattering. My mom loved this strapless ballgown I wore even though I didn't like strapless, and she said it was super flattering. I like how it looked on me, but in the pictures it made me look wide. My bridesmaid really wanted to go dress shopping with me and I only told her the morning of because she texted me asking what I was doing, and she was really bummed that I didn't bring her because she wanted to try out bridesmaid dresses too. You are not fat. At all. You get the dress that you love. All that matters is that you love it. My husband didn't love my dress, it wasn't what he was expecting and wasn't his style at all. But I loved it and rocked it. The dress you love doesn't make you look short or frumpy. You're beautiful! Go get your dress girl!

You have got to stop caring about what others think of you so much. I know that is easy to say and hard to do! You look great! She sounds like she may be a little jealous of you in some way as well if all she had to say was negative stuff.

I learned throughout my wedding planning that if you ask for other's opinions, you will get them; however, we don't really want other opinions in planning a wedding! If you have a dress in mind, get that dress and don't show anyone until the day of you wedding. I can promise you, they will not take shit to you then.

You don't look short and deformed at all! It's a very pretty dress and looks great on you! Don't listen to your mean-spirited bridesmaid. Get the dress you love.

I want to say that lace dress does NOT make you look short and deformed. Oh my word! I was about to post that I love the first dress and then I saw the lace sleeved dress and was blown away. It was made for you! it looks so beautiful and perfect! Im detecting some jealousy from this bridesmaid. She's being a Biotch! Ignore her - I know its hard.

And 100% get that lace sleeved dress! its so amazing on you!

I am IN LOVE with you in the lace sleeve dress!!! go with your heart and get the dress that you love! As far as having your bridesmaid make rude comments about the dress, i'm sure she was trying to be helpful but I'm really sensitive so I know I would have been hurt if someone said that to me. Just take what she was saying with many grains of salt and know that she's trying to be helpful because she cares about you. But ultimately, it's your day and whatever you feel most beautiful in should be your choice!

I posted this way past midnight and I am so overwhelmed with all of the support and responses here. Thank you so so much, I feel better about the planning and the dress shopping journey.

I have been telling myself to stay strong and take everyone's opinions with a grain of salt, and thankfully my mom has been so supportive of me lately even though at first she had very strong opinions about certain things (could be because she has a new boyfriend, and he may end up being my stepdad and she's been a lot happier and calmer with him). And my friend is 3 inches taller than me and a lot slimmer (she put on a lot of weight though and we are about the same, but she's still slim), and she has modeled before for John Robert Powers and a few other small runways. For the most part, I have showed some of my friends and my FMIL the lace sleeved dress and they all loved it. So I won't let BM rain on my parade.

@Susan I live in Sacramento, so it actually gets pretty warm in March, like 60s/70s high warm (sometimes even up to low 80s). The only exception was when we had a couple of weeks of heavy El Nino rainstorms. I still get really cold easily though because of my lupus. The church we are having the ceremony was cold, and when we toured our reception, the ballroom was FREEZING for me!

@VJGaff oh yeah FH always says that he proposed to me when I was heavier, so it doesn't matter to him how I look. Though he is trying to lose weight himself too since we just booked our photographer, and also we are mostly doing it for better health and to live longer. I am so glad your FH is just as wonderful and supportive!

@BookcaseHat I did hint to her that I did not really like the other dresses she suggested to me, and that I still wanted to go with that one.

That's horrible that she would say those things! That said, I think the third one looks stunning on you! I'm not usually one for lace or sleeves but it is a beautiful dress!

WOW That 3/4 length dress looks AMAZING on you!

You need to tell your BM that her comments are hurtful and that she needs to keep those comments to herself or you will be cutting that negativity from your life.

Life is too short to have shitty friends.

Like everyone else said, you look beautiful in all 3 dresses. But, I have to say you are practically glowing in the one with lace sleeves! The look on your face is how I felt when I put on my dress, but only you know how you really feel about it. Either way, you look stunning!

That lace dress with sleeves is perfect on you! While I think you look great in all three, I see what you mean about the DB dress elongating you. You're definitely comparing everything you try on to the DB dress, and that's a good thing. That's how I knew which dress to pick: my mom and I were both comparing everything I tried on to a certain dress. Unless you and your mom come across another dress that makes you completely forget about the DB dress, that's the one. And did I mention you look fantastic in it?! I second the advice to go back to DB with your mom so she can see it in person.

I am so sorry your BM is not being supportive. I want my BMs to give honest feedback, but it doesn't sound like that's what your BM is doing for you. If she was bring truthful about her thoughts on your favorite dress, you'd have a bunch of people on WW telling you that you're wrong about the DB dress you love. But instead, you have a thread full of other brides telling you that this dress is perfect on you and that you should get it! I have no idea why your BM is being so negative. It could be that she's upset you didn't take her with you dress shopping and she can't take credit for your awesome dress, she could be jealous that you're getting married, or she could just be really bad about liking good ideas that just happen to not match her taste. From a friend standpoint, I'd talk to her about it. Tell her that while you value honest feedback, it hurt you that she has been so harsh and critical about your wedding ideas, and try to find out why she isn't being very supportive. From a bride standpoint, don't show her most of your wedding ideas from now on since you know she's not capable of thinking outside her own tastes and is downright cruel when she gives her opinion.

The David's Bridal dress looks stunning on you.

When it comes to advice here is how I look at it: if I ask a friend, I want them to be honest, otherwise I wouldn't ask. We can't expect friends to just tell us we we want to hear- that's not being a good friend. However, we have all encounter that one friend that seems to be honest but all her advice is criticism, nothing positive. At this point, you have to evaluate if her opinions are genuine, honest, and well intended, or if there another motive such as envy. If that's the case, you don't need this person. If that is not the case, then you all may just have to agree to disagree and you may have to ask her to look at it from the PV of what you want even if it's what she like.

Awe hun you look beautiful in all dresses!! But I have to say that lace sleeved one is SO stunning!! At the end of the day you have to remember it's what YOU want. I know it hurts to hear comments like that. When I text my FSIL and showed her my dress her first comment was "seriously? you look like like a doily. You should be in a cupboard under a teacup" -- I shit you not. I simply said "well I guess I'm a doily!"

If you feel beautiful than don't let anyone tell you differently Smiley winking You seriously do look beautiful!
