If you use real flowers, make sure they are non-toxic and that your baker ensures they are food safe for the cake (as in there is some sort of barrier between the cake and the flowers). I used freesia, gardenias, and a greenery that I can't remember the name of, none of which are toxic to humans. You can google whether the flowers you want to use are toxic. Also, make sure the real flowers are organically grown and are not treated with pesticides or chemicals. Non-toxic and food safe also applies to fake flowers, but I haven't done any research as to what that means for fake flowers.

Third option....gumpaste or sugar flowers. Even for the non-toxic flowers, it always weirded me out to have them touching the cake...but thats just me

I'd do fake flowers. I wouldn't chance them dying or something happening.

Thank you all! I was thinking about buying roses(light pink) how many would I buy? The cake size is 10-8-6 I wanted the flowers cascade down the cake.

Do you have a florist? We had our florist put leftover flowers from her setup into the cake.

I'm doing sugar flowers. But if I were to choose between the two i would go with silk flowers.

I vote sugar flowers. That way you have edible flowers that won't cause allergies

I'd use silk since I'd be paranoid about them wilting or something overnight. But you're hearing this from someone biased since I chose silk flowers for my centerpieces because of allergies and cost reasons Smiley winking
