Real and Fake Floral Decor mix

Erica, on February 24, 2021 at 7:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I'm having a somewhat small backyard DIY rustic wedding this Summer. I have a florist doing my bouquet and the centerpieces and some other things as well. But I was wondering, would it look odd if I had fake flowers in a few places as well? Not so much because of cost, but due to set up.

The florist will be setting up a good deal of stuff the morning of the wedding. I'm a very crafty person (my job is actually within the arts and crafts field) and I'm making a bunch of stuff like garlands and displays. One of the things I was thinking was hanging bud vases from trees in a corner of the yard. If I used fake flowers I could set up in advance. Real flowers would obviously have to wait to get set up until hors before the event. There's going to be so much gone already I think the more that can get done in advance the better.

So will it look bizarre if there's fake flowers in parts of the decor and fresh in others? (Not mixed into the same display. (For example, the bouquets will be all fresh, centerpieces will be all fresh)

Honestly i like the mix. You are putting your own craft to use so to speak ha. It adds a personal touch and it can be fun. I dont think it will look odd.

In order to get real looking silks, you end up paying much more than you do for fresh. Also many florists have a clause in their contracts saying they will only work with you if you order everything from them.

I’m all for the mix! Our table decor is a mix of real and fake eucalyptus and from pictures, it looks the same. I guess it would depend on the type of flowers!

My florist was great and luckily I didn’t have a clause to add in my own faux flowers 🌸 I told her every time I went to Michaels I felt like I was cheating on her 😂 I did faux for picture tables mixed with real for bouquets and centerpieces. Here is a pic of our childhood picture table that had both kinds (tall one faux and smaller one real from the florist). I like a mix 👍Real and Fake Floral Decor mix 1

Thanks everyone! I’d be doing the faux ones to satisfy my craftiness and not for cost (I know they’re often expensive anyway). My florist is amazing and rolls with whatever crazy ideas I’ve had LOL she definitely doesn’t push me to get things from her.
I’m so looking forward to getting creative!

I’m doing the same. My florist will make my bouquet, sweetheart table centerpiece & cake flowers. I bought some long stem flowers & ribbon at Hobby Lobby- my stepmom & I will make arrangements for my bridesmaids.
