Re-thinking my burlap runner..

countrybride*H*, on April 24, 2011 at 10:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

I was really wanting to do a burlap aisle runner.. but now I'm rethinking it. I know I'm going to have to have some way of weighing it down on the sides so that as I'm going down the aisle it doesn't roll up behind me as I'm walking lol (I was planning on using mason jars for that) but it got me to thinking would it be cheaper to just buy an aisle runner at walmart ($20) than buy the burlap and whatever other materials I need to weigh it down with (I have access to plenty of mason jars.. just not sure what other materials I would need past the jars)? What do you ladies think would be the best route?

The mason jars would look cool, but my first thought is how big is your dress and when you walk past it would you knock the jars over? what if you just got stakes like what you use to hold down tents?

I like the idea of a burlap runner if you are doing an outdoor (park or beach) wedding. The mason jars sound lovely (put votive candles inside or colored stones with one flower in the center and place them about every 20 inches or so on each side. Or you can get a large stencil (ask your craft store which appropriate paint to use) and paint in a motif design, your names or a wedding quote. You can also match your burlap runner to your table top runners giving a consistent look with a natural and elegant feel as well as adding burlap pew decor. Whichever runner you do decide on, add flower petals in puddles down the middle to match your wedding colors for a soft, romantic look. Here's some ideas. Good luck!

You could put sand in the mason jars and a tealight on top of the sand.

As for burlap ... not sure if there os a Hobby Lobby near you but they send out 40% off coupons to your e-mail every now and then. If you empty a bolt they might give you discount too, doesn't hurt to ask. Also watch for when they have fabrics marked down.

Could you use pins to pin it down?

You could even use some colored sand to accent the regular sand to keep costs down yet make it look a bit fancier. Or tie a ribbon around the jar.

Even if the isle runner at Walmart is cheaper it's nothing unique or special.

Vanilla-Nut's comment reminded me of the garden staples we used to put bird netting over our strawberries. They can be bought at a local hardware store or you can buy a roll of wire and bend some yourself.

Not sure how much else you want to incorporate burlap, but I just found an etsy store that has a bunch of burlap stuff. They look like easy DIYs too. I may use this site for further inspiration myself.

I didn't use a runner, that is an option too!

You can just line the aisle with your mason jars with candles, and then you can re-use them as centerpieces on the tables. Save money on decorations!

My wedding is indoors, my dress does have a train (chapel length), and that was my intial worry about a weight to weigh it down is my train knocking it over. I was planning on using river rocks, but I'm beiginning to wonder if the rocks would make it heavy enough to where it wouldn't get knocked over

Here's a picture of the burlap aisle runner I found online Lafeada J. My theme is rustic country and I'm thinking it will go along with my theme well

What if you just lay river rocks all along the edge?

I like that idea Jeanette P, but I know for sure my dress would probably move those around, and my veil is a little longer than the train on my dress, and I know the material the veil is made out of will catch the burlap if its not weighed down by something. And I am already planning using burlap as table runners Smiley smile

I know it has been suggested, but I will say it again. You could pin the burlap down on the sides using floral pins (like the ones used to pin on corsages) or even safety pins since the aisle already has capret on it!

I love your idea for the burlap runner, it will look great! And I agree with Katy suggesting pins. Would you be able to try it out see how it looks? With the carpet, it shouldn't damage anything, just have to make sure they are put in where they won't be in anyone's way or does not have anyone get caught in them. If you put them right at the edges.

I'm liking the pin idea. I think I would still atleas sit mason jars on top of them filled with something so that my dress doesn't get snagged on one of the pins.
