Rain on my wedding day

JessBaran, on March 9, 2016 at 2:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

My wedding is next weekend and I am starting to get worried about the weather! Right now there is a 10% chance of rain but a high of 77 degrees(yesterday it was a 40%!). I know it is still too early to tell but I am still worried! Has anyone had it rain on their wedding day? How did you deal with it? My reception is in doors but my ceremony (only 15 min) is outdoors.

Rain is good luck (or so they say).

Hopefully it holds off, but do you have a backup plan for the ceremony just in case?

Buy some umbrellas (I recommend a hand one for each BM and then one huge either golf umbrella or even a patio/beach umbrella), and give yourself extra time to get in and out of vehicles with your BP. Take a cute umbrella in the rain photo!

I was in a wedding where it rained in October, and the bride told the BMs to bring a jacket (we did denim jackets) in case we wanted to cover up in the rain. It really was fine to be honest with you, and was a great day. The rain didn't do too much except we had to take so much more time getting in and out of the party bus/shuttle, like someone had a huge beach umbrella walking each girl to and from, which was extremely helpful although time consuming.

Caroline- The back up plan is to move the ceremony inside but the ceremony site is gorgeous and one of the reasons I chose the venue =(

Thanks ladies, I will buy some umbrellas and be prepared! I guess I just have to deal with whatever Mother Nature decides to do

It's supposed to be good luck (: It rained at my niece and nephew's wedding which was completely outdoors. It was a light rain thank goodness and it stopped after the ceremony. No one seemed to mind and we didn't even have umbrellas. I still think it was the prettiest wedding I've been to.

As someone who had to deal with a large weather storm (snow not rain) you can really just make the best of a bad situation. Lots of umbrellas and a backup plan. It is a bigger worry now than it will be when it happens.

Emmy- Looks like you got an amazing picture in the snow! Awesome! That is a good point, it probably won't be a huge deal!

We knew we wanted warm weather, we knew we wanted it outdoors, and we knew we wanted a Saturday. So I downloaded weather data from the National Weather Service, and scoured it for days that have historically had very little (or no) rain in our area. That's how I picked July 30th. In the last 10 years, I think it only rained on that day one or two times, and when it did, it was very little rain. And still, there is no guarantee... So we do have a backup plan; our venue can hold the ceremony indoors.

    ETA: fix typo

There was a 60% change of rain at 2pm which was when our ceremony started. We had a backup plan, but decided to chance it outside and hope for the best. We got through our ceremony and an hour oh photos before it started pouring.

Try not to stress on the weather. Our forecast went from 35 and snow to 60 and possible showers in the 10 days I was stalking it.

FWIW, it *poured* at my baby brother's wedding in August-- we had just finished the ceremony when we heard the thunder, and were trying to take some pictures of the BP when it started to *pour*. Sadly, the reception was a 1/4 hike (seriously, through the woods, over a creek-- the whole nine yards...), so we all got a bit wet trying to get there. Still, his wedding was, without a doubt, my favorite wedding, including my own, which I loved. So, don't stress-- make the best back up plans you can and then roll with it. You'll still be married at the end of the day.

If it rains the upside is that you can get the cutest umbrella photos:

It rained on our wedding day and we were so happy because of it. It even managed to rain on my hair/makeup trial... So now every time it rains my husband and I both smile.

The umbrella pictures are just so cute. The only true advice is to not let it bother you. There is truly nothing you can do except be prepared. Think of what you'll do if it's just slightly raining, think of what you'll do if it's a monsoon, decide what time that day you will make the call whether to move it inside or not, etc. and get to lookin for some cute umbrellas!

It will be a beautiful day no matter what!

Honestly the weather can change last minute. I've known brides that there was a 60% or higher chance of rain on their wedding day (even the morning of, it was forecasted that way) - and guess what? It didn't rain.

You should have a backup plan just in case of bad weather (I know that most people I talk to that had an outside portion, always had a plan B inside). **looks like you do have one!

By the way the weather can change - two weeks before our wedding it was suppose to be in the 50s.. a week before in the 40s/30s.. Days before our wedding the weather forecasted dropped to the 20s and the teens.. I personally didn't mind the cold, we made it work - it was the wind that made things a little more difficult (for everyone)... Of course, we had to make some changes to our reception - but it all worked out.

You can't let it get to you... Try not to worry and just go with the flow.

By the way - if it does rain, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll rain during your ceremony...
