Quote from the Florist

Kelly, on June 29, 2010 at 2:07 PM

I spent about 2 hours with a florist and we figured out everything (bouquets, ceremony, reception, rentals and so on). I was really nervous for the quote, but it came out to be $5,429. I didn't think that was too bad, but also don't really have a good grasp on what flowers should cost. Does that...

I got almost EXACTLY the same amount of flowers, and most of the same types, and it came to about $1200. But, that is in CA, not NY. I would get at least 3 quotes from other people. Now that you have a list of what you want, you can submit that to other florists and just get bids.

Oh true. I know there is a wholesale place that is pretty good but I just don't want to worry about setup/take down/transportation the day of.

Doesn't have to be wholesale, just other florists. I would consider that a base bid, and you can see if you can beat it now. Also, if you really like this florist and you get a lower bid, you can use it as leverage to ask him to lower his price.

Okay, that makes sense. I should just submit the list and see what they say.

@ not-a-mrs I couldn't believe how expensive they were. I'm only using a few because my mom is a flower snob and really pushed to have them in there

I think for what you're getting it's very reasonable. Mine is very similar, and our total was $5680.00 So I would say it's a fair quote.

It does seem comparable to smaller wedding package prices, but I agree that it doesn't hurt to get additional quotes.

What florist is this? I live in Buffalo and haven't heard of anyone charging that much. I am getting my bouquet, 6 BM bouquets, 9 boutineers, 3 wrist corsages and a flower for the ceremony for $600 and she delivers too. You should definitely look at a few more places!

I am actually using Grasers Florist, the website doesn't show any hand tied bouquets but she did the flowers for my dads wedding last year and she does a GREAT job and all my bouquets will be hand tied and she is patient (I changed my mind completely and she met with me again and sat down and gave me ideas) Her name is Carolyn and she is just so nice!! There is a store on Amherst in Buffalo, one on Transit in E. Amherst and then one on Delaware in Kenmore. I am doing mostly white roses and purple calla lillies too Smiley smile

Wow...what a flower budget...I'm just putting my 2cents out there but remember its just my two cents....I don't plan on doing ceremony flowers because really you are only there for 20 mins to 1hr..as far as fresh flowers for reception. I've been to tons of weddings and they just get left. Now a days people don't know if you rented or brought them. So I plan to rent my centerpieces...but then again this is your wedding and your taste. Your flowers sounds wonderful!!!!

Kelly, too high for the area (FS is from there) look in some of the shops in Amherst or Lockport and you will get a better price. My FSIL got hers for a ton less. My other friend got hers from some flower barn place in Gasport and they where cheap and AWESOME!!

I don't think the price is unreasonable, but definitely get a couple of quotes to compare Smiley smile

Kelly, You didnt say how big the centerpieces were, but 25 of ANYthing isnt a little bit of money, so based on what you listed, it sounds very reasonable to me.

Id check out another florist, just for comparison, but any reputable florist isnt going to lower their price, just because you tell them you can get it elsewhere for less... If you are shopping based on price alone (which I doubt you are if your mom is a flower snob, lol!) then you could go *anywhere* and get your flowers. Even the grocery store... You get what you pay for, and lower price ususally = lower quality, and or less experienced vendor.

I agree the price seems reasonable for everything you're getting. We'll have at least 20 tables, my bouquet plus 5 bridesmaids, 8 bouts, 2 corsages, ceremony and cocktail and it's coming out to probably a little less, but we're getting it at cost from the shop I used to work at. But I also agree you should get quotes from other places Smiley smile it never hurts!

Definitely check with other florists just to be sure. Mine only came out to $490.00...but I didn't go with rentals, centerpieces, etc.
