Quick, Must-have Wedding Photos

shannon.sv, on June 5, 2020 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 24
We downsized our ceremony and have our photographer for only 90 minutes (30 minutes before ceremony, 30 minutes of ceremony, and 30 minutes after ceremony). We were looking to have her take just a handful of first look photos before the ceremony and a few family photos afterwards. What would be YOUR one or two must-have photo for either or both of these times? 1f642.png

Hi Shannon, If you are looking for a great photo prop, I would get a picture of everyone toasting and popping a bottle of champagne. If you are looking for a great sparkly wine bottle, check out OneHope Smiley smile winesbyjen.com/celebrate

In a short period of time, I would go for portraits. If you're getting married at the reception venue, get detail shots (dessert, flowers, etc). But if you can't, just focus on getting pictures of you and husband, family and friends in attendance.

One of my must have photos was a photo of me, my mom and my grandmother on my mom's side. I am extremely close with my mom and grandmother. I had this photo taken prior to the ceremony when my grandmother on my dad's side wasn't around. I'm not as close to her as I am my grandmother on my mom's side.

Also would think to have a photo with siblings as well. Maybe photo with just moms. I definitely want a photo of just me with my mom & grandma, just me and mom, and just me and grandma.

We did an elopement/minimony in about the same timeframe and just let our photographer take the lead. We did a first look, shots during the ceremony, and a few shots after as well, during which our photographer snagged a few of us with our guests. My only specifications were couples shots, a shot with our dog, and one of me and my mom. I have only seen a sneak peak of our photos so far but our photographer did an amazing job. If you hired a pro, they will know what to do. 90 minutes isn't a ton of time, so I would say if you know shots you absolutely want, let your pro know, but otherwise don't come up with a more extensive shot list and let your photographer guide you. You picked your photographer based on their portfolio and ability to create beautiful images that speak to you - if you let them lead you'll likely be really happy with the result!

I would focus on candids here actually, but I may be the odd one out. If you're doing a reception in April, you will have plenty of time for formal portraits then that'll basically look a lot like the portraits you'd get from this day. I'd focus on the raw emotion of the wedding and get some candid shots really showing the happiness of the day through the unfortunate circumstances.

I very much agree with this. I love candid shots over posed shots. You won't get a second chance to capture the emotions there will be on the day you marry.

I have some family photos but didn't want to have to retake all of them in April! Maybe I should ask our moms the one photo that they would want from this year.

I was just trying to figure out what photos I definitely wanted since this is the day that we are getting married and we are not going to have an additional ceremony in April!

Thanks for the advice! I only put two or three family photos on so that I wouldn't have to retake in April. I definitely think we will focus on some candid photos following the ceremony!
