Question about airbrush makeup

Holly loves David, on July 30, 2012 at 11:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I was wondering how airbrush, makeup mainly the foundation, compares to regular liquid foundation. I had a sort-of makeup trial this weekend my FMIL took me to a Mary Kay consultation, it wasn't a full blown makeup trial but the foundation they put on me was so thick I felt like I could ice a cake with it. They put on primer then foundation then some creme to powder stuff then bronzer, and I could rub it off with my hands it was very thick. Is this normal for wedding day makeup? I was def out of my comfort zone there, and felt like a clown.

My questions are I guess: how does airbrush foundation feel compared to that? Is it really thick like liquid foundation? Does it cover as well?

Also have you ladies heard of Jane Iredale makeup? I have an actual real makeup consultation with a spa this weekend who uses those products. What are you opinions?

Airbrushed foundation feels almost not there and it lasts and lasts. I had my make-up trial with airbrush and woke up the next morning with it still on. Also it is so lightweight that it doesn't clog up your pores.

Have not heard of Jane Iredale but it's good you are getting a trial. Let us know how that works!

One thing to keep in mind is how consumer brand makeup reacts to photography. Mary Kay is a consumer brand as is Jane Iredale.

Jane Iredale is mineral makeup which has a tendency to flash back and make your face appear white. I have also found that makeup containing SPF will tend to flash back as well. In order to acheive picture perfect makeup, it is best to use a professional grade brand of makeup designed for photography and film.

Airbrush makeup is a very light, sheer makeup with buildable coverage. It is applied usnig an airbrush gun similar to what they use to airbrush cars, t-shirts, etc. The product is applied in a tiny, dot-like pattern. It is favored among makeup artists working on TV and film where HD (Hi-Def) is being used as the makeup application becomes flawless and undetectable. It should never feel thick or heavy. It also does not require being set with any powder product and once applied it should not be manipulated or moved.

Yes to what the ladies said, but I would also look for a new MUA. My MUA did my trial with both regular and airbrush foundation, and neither felt cakey. I love makeup and wear it regularly, and don't feel it's that thick even when I wear my longest lasting, most covering foundation. So I think part of it has to do with the particular MUA who did the trial.

I had my make up trial this past weekend and it was airbrush. It was the perfect day for the test it was hot, humid, and filled with lots of stress and nerves and it absolutely held up perfect!! It did not even feel like I had makeup on which was wonderful!

If you are doing airbrush, try to have a trial with the actual person who is doing it wedding day if possible. I have a friend who gets hers airbrushed for any excuse she can find and it seriously make her look like a clown. I know airbrushing is favored by professionals, so I am of the belief that its her artist.

If you do choose "regular" make up route... Jane Iredale feels great on your skin and in person it looks great. But in my experience with it... it definitely left me looking SUPER pale in photos. If you are getting yours done professionally, more than likely they'll use professional grade. If you choose to do it yourself... i really do love clinique. I know it's not as "high end" as some of the other consumer stuff. But it photographs well and i don't feel goupy in it. I have really bad breakouts on an off and it covers well and even when I cake it on to cover them up... it doesn't feel ickky.

    Good Luck!

I did my makeup trial with airbrush on July 14th. It was my first time using it but I loved it. It was light weight I probably knew I had it on. It lasted for hours. It also don't wipe on as easily as regular makeup do. I think with any type of makeup it all depends on who doing it and how experienced they are with it.

Thanks for all the replies! I really wanted airbrush makeup, or at least a trial with it. The Mary Kay thing was kind of a thing FMIL pushed me into trying, and it's not even an option at this point, I hated the way my face felt.

I was under the impression the spa I am having the makeup trial at did airbrush makeup but they mentioned they use Jane Iredale products so I guess I will see what happens when I get there on Friday! I have had 2 makeup artists who would have come to me flake out, so I am done trying to find someone to come on location and there are only 2 places near where I am getting married who could do hair/makeup.

@Vanessa T - I used to use Clinique too for a long time and I loved it. I hardly ever wear makeup anymore because I stay at home, and I am to the point where I just don't care about putting makeup on just to go to the store etc where 5 years ago I wouldn't be caught dead outside without it lol!!!

I agree with everyone else, you will like the weightlessness of the airbrush foundation and it's a better choice in humidity (we almost always have humidity here in Houston).

Try to schedule your makeup trial in the same lighting that your wedding will be held, so you can really visualize how it will look. If you're a minimalist who's having an evening wedding, please remember your makeup can be a little more dramatic (but you should never feel uncomfortable.

I had my airbrush trial for my daughter's wedding. I didn't care for it. My pores looked big. I was going to have the artist do regular make-up, but I figured with the heat and humidity of this summer, I would stick with airbrush, but just make sure I use my Perfectionist Serum from Estee Lauder, my moisturizer and then the primer, Clarins. It should stay on. I hope.

    Good luck.
