Purchased my dress out of state... Now need alterations

Michelle, on November 6, 2018 at 9:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I live in Connecticut and really wanted to go to Kleinfeld for the experience.

I found a gorgeous dress that I fell in love with and said yes to the dress there. I highly recommend shopping at Kleinfeld if you're looking for a great selection of dresses.

My dress isn't coming in until May 2019, but I am starting to wonder what my best option is for alterations. I can either travel the 2 hours to go to fittings there or I can have this shipped back to Connecticut to have the dress altered somewhere here.

My question is whether anyone has done this before and whether they've found any difficulty with a bridal shop you didn't purchase your dress from.

My intention is to find a shop where the bridal party can get their dresses from as well as my mother and FMIL.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Michelle

There’s no reason to go back to the store you bought the dress from for alterations. But, you also don’t find another bridal shop. You just find a professional seamstress/tailor. Look around for someone who specializes in Bridal Alterations. I found mine on Yelp.

I live in Ohio and bought my dress at Kleinfelds. I bought a lightening fitting so my alterations will be completed over the course of a weekend.

I bought my dress in Texas where I’m from and had it shipped out to California where I live and where I got married and had alterations done here. There were no issues.

I purchased my dress 5 hours away from where I live, so I'm just reading Yelp reviews and finding a trust seamstress to do my dress. No need to use extra time for fittings if where you bought the dress isn't local.

I just had my dress altered by a local seamstress, not in a bridal shop.

Don't go to a shop. They'll charge you more than an independent seamstress.

I purchased my dress in NYC as well and I live in Jersey. I'm not going to have alterations done at the bridal shop. I'm going to find a seamstress in upstate NY; as this is where our venue and my parents house are. My dress will be at my parents house until the wedding and we go there often enough to feel comfortable with finding a seamstress there.

If you do choose to have your alterations done at Kleinfeld, you can always make a day trip out of it and hang out in the city for a bit afterwards!
