Puerto Rico weddings?

Leslie, on February 13, 2017 at 1:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 6

I'm looking into having a destination wedding in Puerto Rico with about 20 to 40 guests, I'm trying REALLY hard to keep it small. I know I should look into a wedding planner and I will, but is there any recommendations from anyone whose had a wedding on the island?! Did you have your ceremony and reception in the same place? Did you just pull up to an empty beach told your family and friends where to meet you and bam you were married then went to downtown San Juan to party? Tell me, please. I want to hear what worked for y'all and any suggestions possible!

Please and thank you!

I didn't get married in PR, but I've been to 2 resorts there where weddings were happening. Check out the Wyndham Rio del Mar: http://www.wyndhamriomar.com/ They have wedding packages and the grounds are gorgeous! It's near the Yunque, so not near San Juan, but I'm sure there are hotels in San Juan that have wedding packages. I'm so jealous! If it weren't for folks in our BP who couldn't afford the tickets I would totally do a DW in Puerto Rico!

Have you ever been to P.R? Has any of your guest been?

Are you trying to have a beach wedding in P.R?

I do not recommend having a DW in Puerto RIco I am from Puerto Rico I had my first wedding on the island and I regret every dime i spent for nothing. Many people will take advantage of you on the island. You can not trust vendors. As far as getting a marriage license in Puerto Rico it is a long waiting time they tell you 1 week waiting time and it's more like 6 months waiting and then in order to use it in the US you have to get it translated to be able to change your name which is also a big pain. You are better off getting married in the states and than Honeymooning in Puerto RIco Condado Vanderbilt is a wonderful hotel.

I'm from PR. My aunt is a wedding planner at the Vanderbilt hotel in the old San Juan. Try to get in touch with Iris Ortiz- she is the best. The hotel is gorgeous. With that being said. I'm getting married in MA...but she helping me plan my wedding

Hi! I'm getting married at the Oceano restaurant, Luna Lounge, in Condado. We're having 40 guest. I found all my vendors via WW, they've been wonderful and responsive. Oceano has great reviews on both WW & Yelp and it's on the beach. Super excited!

I don't recommend telling people to meet you and try to sneak a whole ceremony with 20-40 people without getting caught. You have to pay a permit and you must rent chairs for people to sit.

I am getting married in Puerto Rico on July 1st 2.017. My FH is Puertorican , we want his family and specially his mother to be with us and also we love the beach and want to have a beach wedding. We have been making enquires and quotations, and it has been difficult. I don't know what kind of wedding do you want but there are many options, at the beach ( you need a license) in a park, in a ruines all those 3 are very well organized but I don't think are good enough for 30/40 guests, as someone has just said you need chairs etc for your guests. There are packages at the hotels that sounds very nice, they help you out with the ceremony , the cocktail hour and the reception and book the rooms for your gustes Finally, we are going there to sign the contract and to discuss all the details in person. I will keep you informed.
