PUBLIX cakes?

Joleigh, on April 10, 2013 at 10:24 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

Has anybody on here gotten or know of anybody that has gotten their wedding cake and/or grooms cake from PUBLIX? Looking online, their cakes are really pretty and can be completely customized to what you would like, and of course are about half the price of what a private bakery would charge. We have our cakes ordered through a private bakery already, but I'm all about saving $ if we can get the same cakes for about half the cost. Any insight on these cakes at all??? Thanks! Smiley smile

DELICIOUS!! Yes, actually, I've been to three weddings with Publix cakes -- the Publix Greenwise stores have a better decor selection of cakes, but regular Publix stores still do a great job.

And they are delicious, consistently delicious. I say go for it!!

I haven't personally tried them but I've heard great thing from others. I hear they also do a great job on flowers for a fraction of the cost.....

@Just Reenski thank you, that makes me feel alot better about considering this. the cake that you had, did it have the regular frosting or fondant, or do you remember? lol I normally don't like fondant because it's sooo hard to get someplace where their fondant tastes decent, but if Publix is good then I am all for it, it just looks nicer

@RayRay I wish we could find a lady like that, homemade cakes are always sooo much better

@Shannon I'll definitely check on the flowers there too! THANKS!

One of the weddings had the centerpieces done by Publix. Granted, that wedding (which also had Publix cake) was for a gentleman who has worked at Publix for years, and the bride, my friend, used to work there, also for years, so they got even more of a deal, but still. Great quality at a fraction of the cost.

They were not fondant, it was buttercream icing, I'm 95% sure. I cannot even get to any pictures or I would post those for you (I might be able to find some later tonight.) But they made it through until cake cutting, not sure how they handled delivery, so check into that.

We use Publix bakery for birthday cakes -- yummy.

I don't know if they deliver -- check on that. If it is a tiered cake, you don't want Aunt Susie trying to transport it.

We are getting a Publix cake....YUM! It is so good that it is practically the only part of wedding planning my FH has gotten excited about. They actually don't make the cake part in store. They are shipped to the stores from a warehouse to be decorated. That's why they all always taste the same. We are doing raspberry filling and I highly recommend it. When I was doing my research the ladies said that each store is different and if you found a pic online of what you are wanting they can pretty much try to duplicate it. So you don't have to pick what's online. That was a nice perk. I have an email from the store that I can forward you if you want. I had contacted about a lil pricing and things and they sent me some additional info back that wasn't online. Just let me know.

@Jennifer M. yes, please forward me that email to my mailbox on here, I would love to see it.. Thanks for the advice on the filling, I love raspberry but my sister n law, who is also a bridesmaid is allergic :/ I didn't know they order them from the warehouse to decorate but hey if their good cakes it doesn't matter to me lol but yes please forward me the email, look forward to getting it Smiley smile

Couldn't get a message to work for me on here so I am going to attach what the email says. Hope it helps.

Each of our Publix stores has a book with all the bridal shower, groom's, wedding, and anniversary cake designs we offer and examples of the different size tiers and servings. We will be pleased to merge our designs and customize the size of our cakes based on the approximate number of servings to fit your specific needs. All of these special occasion cakes are available for you to view online at our Web site address: http://www.publix.com/wedding.

I will be happy to provide pricing for our designs (or our merged designs) if you will let me know the designs you are interested in. Just to let you know, an approximate cost of a 2-tier cake (sizes 8" and 6" round layers) with buttercream icing that would serve 15 - 20 guests (with the top tier saved for your first-year anniversary) is $105.00. The additional fee for filling is approximately $7.00. Some items including cake toppers are an additional fee.

We make the following cake flavors at no additional charge: vanilla, chocolate, combination of vanilla and chocolate, and marble. If you are interested in a multi-flavored cake, you can select these individual cake flavors for each tier at no additional fee. We also offer crème cake that would be an additional charge of 10% per tier or we have carrot cake for an additional charge of 20% per tier. Also, you may consider our filling such as lemon, raspberry, vanilla custard, cherry, chocolate pudding, fresh strawberry, German chocolate, or cannoli, for a small additional fee. There is no additional fee for two varieties of filling per special occasion cake.

Our Web site depicts a wide variety of icing colors for most of our cake designs at the Web site address listed below. I recommend that you provide a sample of ribbon or other item to the Wedding Cake Decorator who will do his or her best to accurately match your colors for your cake. http://www.publix.com/icingcolors.

Although we don’t take online orders, you are welcome to place your order with the Wedding Cake Decorator or Bakery Manager at the Publix Bakery near your upcoming event who will be pleased to assist you. You will need to place your order no earlier than two months prior to your upcoming event. We recommend you place your order four weeks prior to your event to ensure our Publix Bakery management team is given sufficient time for scheduling purposes and so forth. We don't require a deposit, but do ask that the cake be paid for 24 hours in advance of your event. We recommend you place your order and pay for your cake in person; however, telephone orders and credit card payments are accepted.

We can deliver and set up your cake(s) for an additional fee. The fee is $30.00 for under 10 miles; $40.00 between 10 and 20 miles; $50.00 between 20 and 30 miles; and $50.00 plus $2.00 for each mile over 30 miles.

Our Deli associates will also be pleased to assist you with your selections and in placing your order (delivery is not provided). The following links to our Web site depict a variety of platters to meet your needs, as well as helpful event and menu planning tips: http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/Deli/Home.do and

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and again, thank you for contacting Publix.
