Psoriasis

Mrs. Barton, on March 6, 2017 at 10:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 46

Any of my ladies on here struggle with psoriasis like me? I have it on the back of my head on my hair line and a little on my neck. I feel like I have to wear my hair down because I'll look "crusty" or something with it showing. My FH has helped me try so many things but I feel like I just can't get it under control. Anyone who has it or a skin condition have an advice? I can post a photo if it will help.

ETA: spelling & words sorry lol

I actually have psoriasis too! Cortizone helps me a lot when my skin is acting up. I try to apply the cream thinly in wherever areas I feel like is scaly. Also I was told that it's really good to be under the sun often, vitamin d helps clearing it out as well.

I unfortunately have it all over my scalp. It was really really bad when I was younger but I see my dermatologist often and I've been using medicated shampoo they prescribed for me. I only need to use it about once a week now to keep it under control, or if it's flaring up. Psoriasis SUCKS, it hurts and itches; and I totally know what you mean about the "crusty" look. My best advice is going to see a derm if you haven't already. Sometimes they put you on oral medication depending on how bad the case is.

Omg girl I feel your pain. I only have eczema but my poor 16 year old daughter has psoriasis SO BAD it literally is all over her body but especially on the back of her head/neck and behind her ears. She can never er wear her hair up. I feel so bad for you cause it really is a struggle. Have you tried the shot you can get to get it under control?

Have you considered oatmeal soap? Sounds weird, but it clears up rashes and such and helps my eczema

I have been to the derm. I've tried shots, lasers, creams. You name it. My body just doesn't want to rid it. My mom has it on her elbows and knees. I just didn't know if maybe you guys had tried something I haven't.

@Wedding18 no I haven't! I used to get eczema behind my ears when I was stressed. I feel that.

@CarolL I've heard that too! Sometimes being in the sun makes it feel so dry and painful though. I can't win lol

Sorry to hear that :/ yours does seem worse than mine. Do you have regular sleeping pattern, diet and atmosphere? For me it acts up on days when I haven't slept well, place is so dry (any long plane rides or heated room).

I don't but my fiancé does. I know he's been using coconut oil & cutting certain foods out of his diet helps his. He tried light treatment but to be honest it didn't work for him.

Stress definitely makes it worse and because wedding planning is stress free...in our dreams! I have found tar shampoos help a lot. I'm not sure what kind of shots you had but my derm recommended cortisone injections into the scalp. Good luck!

Have you tried tea tree oil? I use it as a spot treatment on problem areas and I love it. I always dilute it with a little water or other carrier oils because putting directly on the skin on its own can cause some burning.

Taking gluten out of my diet has helped along with diary. But I still have flare ups. It sucks!

I have it!! Being gluten free (thanks celiac!) has helped dramatically. I also have a cream that my doctor has prescribed and it is similar to a steroid cream. And the sun helps big time.

My sister has psoriasis on her head as well. She's been taking Evening Primrose and Biotin to help internally. Avocado oil on the spots can help with saturation (or tea tree as PP suggested).

I have severe eczema that's been flaring up for the past couple months. Not even my regular Aveeno and oatmeal baths have been helping it. But I've been doing a Shea butter regimen (body soap and sugar scrub in the shower, and body butter after). The exfoliation definitely helps control the excess skin cells, but I still struggle with moisture.

I have the same problem around my hairline and behind my ears. I was given medicated shampoo but it was too strong and started making my hair fall out. Now I cleanse my scalp about once a week using unfiltered apple cider vinegar and water. And when it flares really bad I use T-Sal by neutrogena. Tea tree oil helps as well.

Me too it all over my scalp and that's a huge reason I'm wearing my hair half up and half down. With stress I have flare ups and I don't want to see huge flakes in my hair on my wedding day

@Van Pear jojoba oil is very similar to the natural oils our skin creates so it's really good for moisture

Psoriasis is so hard to deal with. It's a constant battle I'm sure. Has your derm recommended light therapy for it? Some types of psoriasis respond well. Failing that, what about a 1/2 updo? Same effect as an updo but with neck coverage?

I don't have psoriasis but I have an unknown rash on my one arm and it has never went away. I have had biopsies and ever skin test and they can't figure out what it is. It's embarrassing and I realize the only thing that helps is making sure to keep it clean, lots of anti itch and prescribed steroid cream.

I feel ya! I don't have psoriasis but I have eczema and my hotspots are on my chest and arms. The only thing that's been helping so far is steroid creams like betamethazone.
