PSA: Beware of buying a dress at David's Bridal

Private, on February 15, 2015 at 11:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

I am very disappointed with DB. I ordered the following BM dresses:

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_crinkle-chiffon-high-low-halter-dress-f15417

If you go to the website, the dress is advertised as "Crinkle chiffon fabric is free flowing and comfortable." Well I just went to pick them up and the dress is 100% polyester. See the picture of the tag for yourself.

How could DB blatantly do this false advertisement? There is no time to exchange the dresses since I don't want to start from scratch and I am running out of time. I just want to warn other brides who haven't bought their wedding dress/BM dress to just beware of what DB is pulling.

Yeah that's a little weird, but as long as it looks like the picture and I don't have any allergies to different fabrics so I wouldn't care. But you're right the false information kind of sucks. And the fact that you're paying for chiffon.

ETA: Okay I actually don't know my fabrics well, so I looked up chiffon on wikipedia. It says "Chiffon is made from cotton, silk, or synthetic fibers." So basically it looks like you can't really know based off of the DB website what they use to make the chiffon. But for $150 I wouldn't expect it to be silk.

WOW.... that's BS...Hope you didn't pay too much for the polyester

Can you complain yourself in to a discount?? I would try!

@HIH, luckily the dresses do look nice otherwise I would have been pissed.

@karebear87, oh I paid a lot. The dress costs $150 but luckily I got a coupon for 20% off so I paid $120 plus tax which is still a butt load for polyester.

ETA: Good point I didn't think I can complain to get a discount. Has anyone successfully done this with DB?

What did you think the chiffon would be made of?

Ummmm chiffon is made from polyester. Or cotton, or silk, or rayon. It refers to the style of fabric, not the actual material.

Silan is correct. What exactly is the problem here. Does the dress not look like the picture. I think you're confused

@ Care Bear....chiffon can actually be made from silk, cotton or a synthetic material like polyester. It's not false advertisement.

***A couple of others beat me to posting this***

Goes to show I know nothing about fabric..... lol I assumed it would be made of something of a bit higher quality than polyester though.

I forgot to add when I first picked this dress, the model had worn what look like a silk dress. A couple of weeks later they changed the picture and the dress looked different. I thought I was being paranoid but I wasn't. The dress was indeed different from when I first picked it.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the old picture of the higher quality dress.

Ok I got it! Chiffon is the style not the material. Sorry I am not familiar with fashion.

I hid the above post since it was a duplicate of this one.

I don't know what you were expecting from David's, honestly. They have some good stuff there, but that brand isn't exactly synonymous with "finest quality".

Unless it specifies "silk chiffon" it will always be polyester.

It's ok care bear. It's sort of confusing. Did you order online or in the store? If you got it online you can return it and find something elsewhere. Does it look bad?

@Lawmom, thanks! It actually look nice so I am very relieved at that. I just don't like to be cheated which I thought I was. But thanks to you girls I realize my mistake about chiffon (I didn't realize it was the style).

I didn't know anything about fabric, shades of white, or anything related to dresses before getting engaged ha ha.

Polyester chiffon is very common in affordable gowns. Silk is VERY expensive.

Edited: Reread and looked at link, realize that you are talking about a bm dresses not a bridal gown. You budget is still low for a real silk dress. I would suggest JCrew, they have great quality fabrics and very good sales.
