Protection- Mailing Wedding Invitations

Sophie, on June 17, 2020 at 2:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
I know hand-cancelling is a popular advice for mailing invitations but even if the post office hand-cancelled your invitations, there’s a possibility that the envelopes will be dirty or torn apart during the mailing process?

So I was thinking on putting it in a separate plain envelope just to protect the actual wedding invitation envelope just to preserve the aesthetic of your invitation. What do you all think? What did you guys do?

Girl the way they have been delivering mail these past few weeks you would think they had pitbull back there sorting mail. I am not too worried about that, guests are going to throw away the outer envelope anyway.

I think putting them in a second envelope would do the trick!

Hi! I honestly just put the invitations in the original card and made sure it was extra secure...also I don’t have that problem where I live with the torn envelopes. now I will say I didn’t pay very much for my invitation envelopes because I knew that was a possibility. I wouldn’t worry about any extra protection because you will pay for it in the postage once they weigh it.

Lol, I just ugly laughed at that one. You are so right that it's scary! Things must be crazy around there. I agree, though. Might not make a huge difference in the long run.

The envelope is what protects your invitation. Then it gets thrown away. So if it’s dirty, it’s fine. That’s part of the job of an envelope.

Yes you can't prevent the outside envelope from getting dirty, etc but that's why it was invented in the first place as far back as Colonial times. The mail would be hand delivered in all weather so an outer envelope protected the inner envelope (hence why both are addressed) from the elements.

Having received invites in the past, you never know what condition the outer envelope will arrive in, but it gets to the destination intact. Make sure you don't use printed-at-home labels to address the invitations, because the weather can make them smear to the point they may not arrive at the right place.
