We're close to picking our venue! (Yay!) The only snag is the date we wanted is taken, Nov2, 2013, which is a Saturday. Since the Farmers Alamac predicts a really cold weather system to hit Nov.7th, we're looking at our options. Has anyone done a Friday or Sunday wedding? We were thinking of Nov. 3rd on Sunday, but we're weighing the pros and cons. Any tips would help! Thank you Brides! Smiley smile

I'm sure we'll have a blissful wedding. We have a lot of people who love us and will be there. Plus having it in early Nov. shouldn't be too bad to take one day off. We're going to talk to the family and see what they think. We could just do a Nov.9th on a Saturday and call it good. Luckily the venue we have does a flat rate no matter what day it is. We're also wanting a videographer there since we have family that won't be there no matter what.

I think it all depends on the type of wedding you want. If you want to party like a rock star, than you should have it on a Frid eve, making sure you start the ceremony at 6:00. I would suggest doing a "First Look" for photos so your hungry guests can eat sooner. I have attended Fri night weddings like this & the bottom line is, if the guest is important to you, they will make the time to get there. Obviously, there are always different circumstances. I would strongly suggest sending out STDs if you are going this route to give guests enough time to take off of work if they have to.

I am not really a fan of Sun afternoon weddings. I am not a fan of afternoon weddings even on a Sat. We are huge party people & to us, that is the point of a reception. At both my wedding & my daughter's wedding, we wanted our guests to eat, drink & dance to much. To us, that is what a wedding reception is for. Afternoon weddings usually leave me with a strong desire to hit a bar after. : )

Thats why you give them allowance to plan ahead of time.

I'm not a big party person. I like to be with family and friends and enjoy the moment and conversations. I love to dance though and we'll have a few guests who will dance also. Luckily the venue we're planning on getting has a 7 hour block. We were thinking from 3pm to 10pm or from 2pm to 9pm.

My wedding is a Friday evening and many of my family already say that was a good choice. Saturday is the most common day and it is more expensive than a Friday wedding. Mines is in the evening so everyone has time to relax for a while after work and then a Friday evening wedding also allows guests to a great start of a weekend in my opinion. Lol!

We're getting married on a Friday. I was dead set against not having it on a Sunday (I went to a Sunday wedding before, and although it was an awesome wedding 1. all the guys were mad because there was a football game they were missing and a lot of people left really early because they had to wake up for work early the next day). I also REALLY want a September or October wedding, and to have a Saturday we had to guarantee and pay for 130 people no matter what and I didn't want to be forced to do that SO long story short...we decided on Friday.

I know that there are probably a good amount of people who may not be able to come, BUT we cleared it with the immediate family/wedding party and made sure they were all okay with it first, and anybody who doesn't come is completely understandable. We're having our ceremony begin at 5:30

I'm having a Friday wedding and saving $10,000 by doing it. I really wanted a Saturday wedding, but all the venues in my area that I liked were already booked for the time of year I wanted so I had to settle on a Friday. The only con I really see to a Friday wedding is timing. People might be tired from working during the day, rush hour traffic, etc. But I think if they really care about us, they'll be ready to celebrate with us (hopefully.) We are having a very late Friday wedding to give people time to get there without rushing (7:30pm Ceremony). Another pro is people still have the weekend to recover from the wedding, or to continue with their weekend plans.

I like the idea of a Sunday brunch, but if it's a nighttime party type of wedding a con for a Sunday wedding would be people needing to get back home for school/work the next day. Good luck whatever you decide!

We are getting married on a Friday. It is saving us $1700! Our first choice was Saturday, but it was taken. Personally, I chose Friday over Sunday bc to me a Sunday feels like a Sunday... I know it's all psychological, but I don't want to feel like I have laundry to do or groceries to buy (my usual Sunday). Friday is a party day! We started sending out STDs this week so people have more than enough time to arrange for 1/2 work days if they need it.

We also considered doing a Friday or Sunday wedding but decided againsf it because we live in Los Angeles and traffic is horrible,so if we did it on a Friday people would have to leave work early to try to avoid traffic and even then most people would be late. We also decided to go against Sunday because family coming in from out of town wouldnt be able to stay the entire time since it would be an evening wedding. Plus people would have work Monday morning so the majority of our guests would leave early, which would be a waste of money, so we decided to spend the extra $ to have our guests stay the whole night with us.

Seems like Fridays are more popular then Sunday. However I'm not a big party person which seems to be set for Friday weddings. After our wedding we're heading to Ireland so perhaps if so a Sunday would be best

If your friends like to cut loose Friday is better cause no one has to work Sat. If you're doing a Sunday people have more time to get ready but everyone has to get to work the next day.

@Glam2013: I am getting married a week after you on Sunday, June 2nd in Atlanta as well.

I picked Sunday because it saved us money on the venue and on top of that, vendors were more available on Sundays especially since I am getting married in June. 80% of my guests are OOT and they rather have it on Sunday than a Friday night.

We had a fri eve wedding at 6:30 ceremony and it was wonderful. No issues with people not making it there. I agree that the people that love you guys will make it a point to be there no matter what day. Our guests love that they got to start the wknd off on a great note.

In addition to the type of the wedding, I think it's more the issue of timing than the day. Friday is better if the ceremony is relatively late. Sunday is fine if it's somewhat earlier. I don't think people will party until 4am on a Sunday, but you already said you don't care about it anyway. But if you do early Friday, then people have to take off work and such, plus traffic in most areas is a b*tch. So I don't think it's just the question of Sun vs. Fri, but more of when on those two days you do it.
