Proposals - private or public?

I'm an introvert, so I would have preferred private, but he insisted on having it documented. But I really just wanted to be in front of people I am comfortable around (our friends, my family) or strangers that I wouldn't care what they think.

FH and I are similar but different in many ways. He is a bit more reserved than I am when it comes to things like this. I was expecting a private, intimate proposal (we were going to Mexico the week after; I thought it was going to be there) so I was caught off-guard when he did it in public and surprised me by having all of my girlfriends from college show up with glasses of champagne in a party bus to celebrate right after. I was ugly crying, and it was one of the most memorable nights of my life. He decided that the proposal was about me, not him. He is beyond thoughtful and I cannot wait to marry him.

I had a public proposal. We had a Xmas eve dinner at my house. All of our family and friends were present. My fiancé went upstairs changed his clothes and came downstairs wearing a suit carrying flowers. All the while my son had changed the music to Babyface. My son sat me in the big chair surrounded by our family and my fiancé made a beautiful speech and then for down on one knee and proposed.

We kinda talked about it. I thought it was going to be public at our favorite restaurant. I was waiting and.....he didn't do it!! I was trying not to freak out on the ride home. Well little did I know all my children were waiting at home for our arrival. We get home I was on the phone with FH's son. After I hang up FH summons me downstairs to all my kids and he his on his knee. Recites a poem he wrote and asked me to be his wife. It was PERFECT!!

I told DH I didn’t want one with a huge crowd around (like at a sporting event), but he ended up proposing at Monticello. It was perfect because we had just finished a garden tour and we went around behind the house (where no one was) to take pictures. While my roommate was taking our picture, he got down on one knee. There were people around the side of the house that caught a glimpse of what was happening and started cheering and clapping for us, but they were far enough away that it still felt like a private moment.

FH had plans, the evening got rained out, we still tried. By the time we got to the restaurant it was closed, we tried finding another and ended up somewhere with crappy food. Both disappointed we ended up in Starbucks lol. On the way back to the hotel (we were on vacation) we laughing about the evening, talking about how far our relationship has come and how we feel about each other. Seeing that we were almost to the hotel he couldn't wait anymore and propsed on the street. It was a quiet street, quiet and private and it couldn't be any more perfect.

Private! We had discussed it years prior how we would both like the experience to be intimate. Honestly though, In the moment you only see your significant other.

Ours was a private proposal on a very public beach at sunset with a storm rolling in. Just us a violinist and her hubby.

Private. We never really talked about proposals so I didnt say anything. I'm not one who likes attention, so I thrilled it was in my living room. I was engaged once before, (thank God it didnt work out!) but that was public, in a restaurant. I hated having people watching, looking, & clapping. I was so uncomfortable.

I love all the stories.... mine was public and no we never talked about how or even when he would propose!! We had a combined birthday party for my daughter and his son (since they are both January babies) at Sky Zone which is an inside trampoline park. Everyone was in on it except me. Hr had my daughter open her gifts and read her cards, so the last card was from him and there was a poem inside that "she" wrote for me so I stood right in front of babygirl as she read it and I laughed and cried then the end of the poem she says "now mommy turn around" and there he was on his knee everyone filming and clapping and I was crying and completely shocked it was amazing and all the ppl he invited that I was oblivious too lol!!! He got me but he wasn't done because after he proposed to me he also proposed to mu daughter ❤❤

Public! I didn't care how it happened, I just wanted to start planning getting to marry the love of my life. He surprised me after my birthday dinner in front of a dozen of our friends... in the restaurant where we had our first date!

We did not discuss it at all since he was secretly planning it. I had brought up marriage at one point and he said the more I talked about it the longer he'd take to propose lol(he was just kidding around). He proposed after our karate belt test which was perfect. I had secretly hoped that after a belt test he'd propose! I literally never told anyone about this wish I had too so he just really knows me It wasn't really in public but it was with friends and it was perfect...especially since they still had my phone from taking pictures during the test so they got everything on my phone!

I looked annoyed because he hurt his knee during the test and he was faking like his knee was bothering him when he went down and then bam there was the ring tucked in his gi lol

Private! Sort of.....we talked about getting engaged for a long time and FH definitely caught my drift when I told him I didn't need my whole family there, and it should be a moment between the two of us. We went on a trip to Savannah, and though he proposed outside with a few people around, it still felt really personal and intimate.

My guy lnew I'd never like a public place proposal. But he would tease me about it all the time. Saying he was going to do all kinds of things.

Super private. It was just us and he was giving me a back massage and he told me to sit up and I did and he hands me this Pandora box .... and he told me to open it .... So I did thinking it was a Pandora charm .... and was super surprised to see a ring instead

Public, but there weren't a lot of people around. We went for a walk while it was snowing through the town square of the village we were staying in. It was so perfect.

Honestly private is better in my opinion. But we didn't have a proposal, we've been together for a long time and decided it was about time to get married! If he did propose to me formally, it would have definitely been private since we're private people. We don't like being the centre of attention.

It was in the wild, so private? haha. And no, he surprised me
