Proposals - private or public?

Private or public proposals - which do you love? Which did you have? Did you and your partner talk before hand about which type you wanted yours to be? Private? Public?

This was something we definitely discussed before the engagement actually happened. We are both low key people, so we knew we wanted to keep it private! It was perfect. I think proposals say a lot about the personality of a couple. It's so fun!

Ours was private and I wouldn't of had it any other way. I had told him before that he literally could ask me while we're sitting on the couch watching tv and I would be just as happy and excited if it was a big thought out proposal with a violinist and doves lol We were on vacation for my birthday in the Virgin Islands and he asked me the night we got there on our balcony and it was the best moment ever!!!

Ours was in a very public place, but it was private because it was after midnight and no one was around. I wouldn't change a thing.

Ours was private. I used to think that I'd like a public proposal, but I loved the time after I said yes. We made a trip to door county and were walking along the coastline of a park until we found a spot that was devoid of the few other people there that day, then he asked! We got to have the news to ourselves for a few hours and enjoyed walking around the park just soaking in the moment.

I love both, but he went for public, mostly because he knew I would want pictures. My sister and brother in law went on a double date with us to the drive in where we had our first date.

I like the idea of both, though ours was private and I'm the one that proposed to him. I asked him at a park that's also a bird sanctuary.

We had talked about it before and my only request was no holidays/ birthdays. We had a mix of public and private.. We were at the lake after a recreation of our first date. We went on a walk, but my family and my parents friends were “hiding” (I saw my little cousins) and taking pictures but it was just the two of us down on the patio. I thought this was perfect, because I got pictures (yay!) and I got to hug and love on my family after- my papa was crying because I’m his first grandchild and it was the sweetest.

Ours was is in a public park/garden, but it was sunrise so we were the only ones on the path. It was so intimate and romantic with just the two of us and I loved it!

Private, for sure is much better and more genuine imo. The public proposals can get over the top and are mostly just to get viral and to get a bunch of likes instead of being what a proposal is actually meant to be.

We never really talked about it, I would have been happy with anything. It ended up being private and completely h expected tho.

Both are cute but i told my fiance ahead of time, unless its in front of friends and family, i did not want him to do it in public, if it was in front of strangers i would have died of stage freight/anxiety

He ended up proposing to me when we were in the basement of Edgar Allan Poe's house during a tour, he made us stay behind a little so no one was around. It was the first day of a mini vacation for us so it made the rest of the time super amazing.

Not everyone ideal place to be proposed to but it was very us!

I privately proposed to him on the back deck at home one night. He did the "traditional" down on one knee proposal to me at the local beach. It was private, a suprise, and VERY windy and cold! Both were just right for us. Smiley smile

Mine was semi-private. It was me, my FH, our balloon pilot, and a family of four who was able to take pictures during it, but I was totally fine with it. I told him I wanted a proposal in a balloon and he listened!

FH had planned on a public proposal - at a restaurant while we were on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland (it's known for its sunset views from the balcony, photo below). But, plans changed, we had a mini crisis and he wound up proposing much earlier in the week, in the condo where we were staying.

I wouldn't change it for anything. It's at one of our favorite vacation spots, and it was the fourth time we've stayed in that condo (our friend owns it), so it's even more special to us now. I can't wait to go back next year, since we skipped last year to save money and will be going on our honeymoon somewhere else instead this year. And, I'm sure we'll make it to the restaurant to celebrate the anniversary of our engagement in the future.

Mine was private and I am glad it was! I took in all the emotions and enjoy each min of the proposal.

But either way private or public it's the best feeling to get proposed too.

Our proposal was semi-private. He and my family planned it together which made it so special for me. He knows how important my Gram is to me, so he proposed while we were visiting my Florida family right on my Aunt’s dock in her backyard. They set up a cute little table with candles, flowers, and my favorite wine. It was absolutely perfect! 😊

I think the best part (other than being engaged to my best friend) was us turning around to see my whole family shoved up against my aunts glass sliding doors lol!!

I’m such an introvert and FH knows my personality so well. He knew I wanted a proposal to not be a huge spectacle. He proposed on a camping trip in the middle of nowhere. It was perfect.

My husband knew he wanted to propose at Disney (as I love that place) we got tickets that got us into the park an hour and early. Since the park was still closed to the general public there weren’t a lot of people and he tried to get me by the statue of Walt and Mickey Mouse where he wanted to propose... well I ruined that! Oops! There were a limited number of rides open and I wanted to hit as many as we could without lines (since you can see a silly old statue anytime). Needless to say it took about 3 hours later we were by the statue again and he still mustered up the courage to propose in the crowd. It was quiet and personal but the people who noticed cheered! It was wonderful!
