Problems with the reception venue

Danielle, on May 22, 2019 at 12:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

So I have been having a lot of problems with my reception venue. The main one is communication. They never respond to me or answer my phone calls. However, when my mom calls or emails they answer right away. It is very frustrating because I have not been able to get any pricing out of them or any menu options. In the beginning they told me that I would be able to decorate the day before the wedding and the day of. Now they are telling me I only have 2.5 hours before the reception time to decorate. I AM GETTING MARRIED 2.5 hours before the reception! So I have emailed for a clarification on that. They also told me that I could bring my own caterer, as long as they are licensed and approved by the venue, if I did not want to use one of theirs. Well I asked them how I get a caterer approved, because they are not giving me any menu options, and they decided that I have to use one of theirs instead. So I asked them for prices or even just options so that I can create a menu, and they have still yet to respond.

The good thing is that we have not signed a contract with them yet. The terrible thing is that my weeding is in October 2019. Just about everything else is already done and booked. I am freaking out a little bit because I feel like I am going to need to move my reception. Our ceremony is going to be in our church where my uncle is the pastor. They are fine with us having the reception there. We can set up a tent and make it an indoor/outdoor reception just like it was going to be at the venue. Plus them we can have whatever caterer we want and decorate an entire week before if we wanted. Then the only thing I will have the change is my invitations, because unfortunately I am an overachiever and I already ordered them.

I guess my question is it smarter to move my reception or fight it out with the venue and keep it where it is?

Thank you so much!

These are massive red flags, and I would ABSOLUTELY say use a different reception venue! If this is how they are treating you before you spend money with them, imagine after you give deposits, they will REALLY not feel the need to get back to you! Get out while you still can!

Where did you order your invitations from? I made a mistake on my invitations and when I reached out to Shutterfly customer service they allowed me to reprint them for free!

Honestly, were I you, I would cut my losses with the venue. If they can't communicate with you and then they change their stories/requirements around all the time, they don't want your business.

That's what I am thinking. I think I just need some reassurance and make sure I am thinking with a clear head and not a hot head!

I got mine from Shutterfly too! So that is really great to know! I will reach out to them. Thank you so much!

That's how I feel. They are very unprofessional and not hungry for business at all. Its crazy because they are a newer venue so you think they would be dying for people to come in and spread the word on how good they are!

I'd move. It stinks to reorder invites but that's better than wasting more time or money with what's clearly not a professional venue. On the plus side if you have the reception outside the church your guests won't need transportation and it's easy to find.

That's true! Plus then we would not miss all of cocktail hour! Which my fiance was very disappointed about 😂

Well then it looks like the church is a way better reception venue anyway! Haha

If you love the venue, like the looks and price, I would make a list of questions you have and call again to schedule an in person meeting ASAP to get these issues resolved. If that isn’t possible I would start looking for another venue because them being unresponsive is unacceptable

Danielle what ever loss you might have incured with the invitations. It will be well worth it . To have the ability to plan a wedding with you being in control of your food, decor. wedding day time line. And most importantly to be stress free from dealing with a very unprofessional individual.

I’d move and write a review about why I changed my venue. Sorry not sorry. If they are a new venue they need to be better with their business practices and I would be afraid of having the reception there after some of these issues.

Move your reception to the church. If they're treating you, the bride, like this now how will they treat you in October?
