Print/Handwrite envelopes for the invites

nickandkim, on July 10, 2010 at 2:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

Ok so I've read several places that handwriting addresses on the outer envelope is proper etiquette. I'm fine with that..... The big question is, do you hand write the inner envelope too?

Also, do you only include the return address for the response card envelopes or do you put the address on there twice?

I can't answer all of your questions (I didn't do inner envelopes or response cards), but I think that if you are going to hand write the outer envelopes, then you need to hand write the inner envelopes for consistency.

I would use a computer for the outer and handwrite the inner--- the inner is meant to be more personal.

You don't really need the return address on response cards.

I am writing mine today, too! I am handwriting the inner and outer envelopes. I have my return address on the outer envelope (on the back flap) and my address is on the response card envelope.

For the return address, consider getting a stamp. It'll save you time, but will look more personal than a label.

I'm not doing inner envelopes either, so can't help you there. I'm considering typing my addresses on the envelope with a typewriter. But that's just a thought right now.

I had everything printed for everything on the inside and then I printed out everyones address on clear labels for the outside. My response cards have the printed return address as well. I wanted everything to have the same font so it was easier for me to just have everything printed Smiley smile

Well I'll definitely be failing this one. I can't hand-write anything. I can hardly hold a pen for more than 1 minute. It would take me the entire 8 months I have until I send them out to address 50! lol.

I think I might print labels that look like handwriting and put those on... Idk! =0(

I haven't really noticed if people hand-write both. But I would assume so =0\

I think the etiquette rule is old and outdated. These days people aren't offended if a letter isn't handwritten or hand addressed. Theresa I like the way printing looks too. Those invites look great. Smiley smile

I purchased a callagraphy learning kit as soon as I got engaged and was convinced I would learn and write all my own envelopes. In the end, I decided to purchase the font that matched the invitations and pre-printed return address on the outer envelope. I know etiquette says to handwrite them, but I really liked having all the fonts match. If your going to handwrite anything, handwrite the inner envelopes and print the outer envelopes, just don't use labels! LOL!

There is NOTHING wrong with using labels! I was certainly NOT going to hand write 100 addresses before mailing out my invites. I used clear labels and you can't even tell they are labels unless you stare at them. It looks A LOT neater too.

Calligraphy is one of my company's services so I can defiantely help!

Adressing your outer envelope in calligraphy or hand written is a nice touch for your guests. This will let them know that you thought about them enough and took time to hand write each guest's information. There are so many ettiquette/rules for addressing so I can't list them all, however, try looking online or purchasing a book on envelope addressing. Inner envelopes should include only first names of everyone in the family that will be invited. Return addresses on both response envelope and invitation is a must. What if it gets sent to the wrong address? Also, you could invest in a calligrapher in your area or have a friend/family member with good penmanship do it. Or you could always print from from your home computer. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to help! Happy Planning!

If you come up to the South Bay, I will personally help you handwrite them. Smiley smile I love handwriting stuff! Anyway, you could just label, then just handwrite the inner envelope--it helps clarify who is invited also--parents or parents, kids, and grandparents etc.

For the return on the rsvp once printed on the envelope should be enough.

I computer printed my outer envelopes and hand-wrote the inners ONLY b/c I wasn't thinking and got black inner envelopes. So I had to write them with a silver pen. I also computer printed the response envelopes and only included our delivery address. No need to include the guests address. That just makes assembly all the more complicated IMO.

If you are printing labels, I would avoid using a "handwriting" font--it's just likely to make them more difficult to process and your postal workers will not be happy.

If you're doing an outer and an inner envelope, then there's definitely no need to make the outer envelope super personal; that's what the inner one is for. Personally, I'm printing labels even for invitations with one envelope, because my handwriting is epically bad.

Oh! And don't forget, you're not supposed to seal the inner envelope!

I had no idea about this rule, but boy did my mother let me know about it after we sent out the invites. This was funny, since my mother's main reaction to the wedding was to demand to know why she had to go to Vegas, and she herself got married in her parents' backyard. I told her that was what happened when people weren't raised right--they sent out wedding invitations with sealed inner envelopes. *eyeroll*

I'm printing mine on the computer to match the font on the invitations. I definitely can't sit there and write out 80 envelopes!

I'm not handwriting anything. I'm using an ink stamp for our return address and I'm printing out labels with everyone's address for the outer envelope. ::shrugs:: I know that's not technically "good etiquette" but I could really care less. And I'm pretty sure my invitations didn't come with an inner envelope--just the outer and RSVP envelope.

Risky once I reach 40th, I mix up zipcodes or write Canada for US addresses or overlook apartment #s...but if u go with labels, you edit everything before you print and after that, it is a no brainer! saves duplicate postage on returned mailouts...
