PRIEST ON SICK LEAVE!!!! wedding in 2.5 weeks...

catherine, on February 12, 2014 at 11:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Arg we are getting married in a church where we were allowed to bring in our own priest from a different parish. So luckily a family friend/priest said he would do it. and 2 and a half weeks before my wedding we find out he is on sick leave and not sure when they will return. So now they are trying to find a priest that will be ok to marry us in a different church! I'm trying not to panic, everything hopefully will work out.... Also my makeup artist had to cancel on me due to an emergency sochi call and she doesn't know when she will return. At least her partner will be available but man... i hope no one else cancels on me!!!

Why can't you ask the priest if he is a family friend to help aid in the search rather than his church?

Also I am super curious about what a "sochi emergency call" is for a makeup artist! That's stressful but cool

I don't get how an officiant (and a family friend no less) can go on sick leave without having a plan for what might happen to their couples. My contract says that if I'm dead or kidnapped by Aliens, I'll find a suitable officiant from my colleagues to perform a ceremony that has already been written and approved.

You don't want to leave this until the last minute, (and it doesn't sound like you have), but you want some answers and fast.

    Good luck!

It's a bit more complicated as we rented a church to have our ceremony in and was going to use the priest of our parish. And he was ok with it( our parish isn't very beautiful) and it would be great to contact my priest( not so much of a family friend but he taught my dad when he was younger so he is more then just a priest to us. And i'm sure they will find someone. But he won't be french which is a tad disappointing as i won't be having the priest say a few things in french. But really all i want is to be married. I had my melt down yesterday about it all. Today i feel much better about it.

I didn't want a church wedding but my mom really wanted us to so we compromised as we really liked our priest. But now that we don't have him i wish i would have gone the other route. Seems like every time i compromise for others it back fires on me! So note to self. Putting myself first for a while haha.
