Pricing for catering

Koop, on November 13, 2016 at 10:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 39

Just curious on average what people are spending for their catering? Are the tables and chairs included in price for the guests? Are they coming to set up & clean up after? We are looking to do buffet style and wanting to be penny pinchers since we are paying for the entire wedding our selves but curious on average what your paying per person and what's all included. We will have around 50 guest.

It's all different depending on where you are located and what type of food...like BBQ is cheaper.

My venue is doing the set up/clean up and catering and I think we are paying around $110 per person. That includes everything. I haven't worked in the florist or DJ yet because I haven't booked those yet.

Location definitely makes a difference. Chairs & tables were provided by my venue. I did a buffet with lemon pepper chicken, roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes bar, & salad for $14 pp.

ETA: this included delivery, tax, servers, & set up/clean up.

Catering is not the place to be penny pinchers.

Our venue was "all inclusive" so the rental price of the venue included tables, chairs, linens, silverware, china, glassware, etc. as well as the serving and bar staff, set up and clean up of the venue. Our venue was also our caterer. We offered guests a plated meal option of chicken chesapeake (chicken breast topped with crab imperial), vegetarian (which turned out to be sauteed zucchini and squash over rice) or filet mignon. All the entrees came with caesar salad as a starter, herb butter potatoes, green bean almondine, and dinner rolls. The catering cost was $75/pp for the chicken chesapeake or vegetarian option and $79/pp for the filet mignon. That price included top-shelf open bar. Our venue was a historic mansion/country club in the suburbs of Baltimore.

At the venues we looked at that offered an option of plated or buffet, the buffet actually cost more because of the amount of food needed. However, I think sometimes the buffet can also be less expensive depending on food choices and formality. I definitely recommend using an "all inclusive" venue because you will save so much in rental costs not to mention stress and time with set up and clean up!

Less expensive food items will be BBQ style or Italian. You need to contact caterers in your area to get quotes because on here the prices will vary widely depending on where people are and the formality of the venue/caterer!

It really depends. Where we're based, if it's not your typical wedding venue, you're really only renting the space and then you've got to rent everything from tables, chairs, linens, utensils, to drapery.

Our is $13.50 including taxes and gratuity

ETA: were doing buffet style, with a roast beef in au jus, meatballs and noodles in mushroom sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, another veggie, two salads, and fresh fruit. Along with 2 drinks. They set up and clean up their mess.

It's very, very difficult, to compare, from one region to another, or with standards of hosting with your family/area, etc. We're in the northeast U.S., where I've realized that hosting is much different than i.e. for my cousins, who live in a different region. We paid an average of $175 per person, for a full service hotel, including 5 hours of top-shelf open bar, all tables/linens/set-up/clean-up, a massive amount of cocktail hour food, 4-plated courses, a dessert bar/cake, etc. The cheapest rate I've heard, that a friend's sister paid around here, was $110 per person 5 years ago, for a full-service banquet hall.

This is an impossible question to answer, based on region, menu, talent, quality and expectations. And it's not the place to pinch pennies, because it's the most obvious place that you did.

We had a weekend not so long ago with two very, very different weddings; a wedding at an ambulence corps that I'd estimate cost 15.00 PP with a very limited but hosted bar, and mine, at a venue that costs 180.00 ++ per person. Did both groups have a good, if different time?

Sure. Key word; different. They both had a ball, but they had completely different plans and groups of people who are very used to celebrating in those very different ways.

    They're just as married.

But you're talking May of next year. It's time to get crackin'...

Our catering is built into the price. It includes the space for cocktail hour and reception, set up, clean up, linens, tables, chairs, everything basically. Comes to about $130 pp after tax and resort fees. That's for appetizers, salad and dinner.

My venue provides all of the decorations, tables, and everything and set up and take down as well. They're charging us 5,500$ for all of that and then we are paying 38$ per person for food on top of it.

Hotels and party venues are usually 40 to 80 depending I. If alcohol is included. If you are renting a place separately and are having to get a separate caterer. You can do 20 to 40 depending on the food you want. Buffet will be cheaper...than a sit down set up. To save money you could st married on a Sunday. Unless you set your date already. Or do a brunch. Fri and sat night are always more expensive for venues

My Venue included tables and chairs. Our catering company is charging us 16.95$ per person (buffet style) and &2.95 per person for the beverage station we asked for including coffee, water, lemonade and ice tea. We will be having roughly 70-80 guests

We paid $6500 for 160 guests. It depends on where you are, your food choices, and service style. We had two meats (beef and chicken) and 3 sides (goat cheese mashed potatoes, brocolli, and collard greens). It included non alcoholic drinks as well, but not tables, chairs, or linens.

We are paying $30 pp for our catering. The venue has on site catering and the food is incredible. We are having brunch: NY strip chicken fried steak, white cheddar drop biscuits with gravy, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, waffle bar, sweet potato hash, etc. Super tasty. This also includes a coffee bar, juice bar, and hot cocoa bar. Smiley smile

The tables, chairs, linens, etc are included in the venue rental fee of $650. Which I couldn't believe!

This most definitely depends on your area. I live in Oklahoma and every single place that I've talked to in my area is $40 or less pp but that doesn't include tables and chairs or set up and clean up or the bar. It's just the food and servers and sometimes the linens. There were also two all inclusive venues around me that would cost around $10,000 for 100 guests and you'd get set-up and clean up, catering, cake, tables/chairs, linens, centerpieces, etc. basically everything except for attire, alcohol, officiant, and photography. So it really depends on where you are.

For nothing but food (3 cocktail hour stations, 2 proteins, 3 sides, a salad, coffee, lemonade and bread is about 40/pp for us. adding service fees, bartender, soda, dessert and (exclusing cake and liquor) increases that to 65pp (cause whats the use of food if there is no one to serve it and nothing to serve it on)

Add into that the venue fee and its 112 (food is no use without a place to sit down)...

So its kind of a strange question to answer.

but i would say my caterer is running me 70pp
