Price per plate?

Darlene, on June 22, 2013 at 1:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 47

Hey all, I was just wondering, what is the most ridiculous price per plate that you've ever heard of.

A few years ago I attended my cousins wedding and I believe it was around $100 per plate which I find beyond ridiculous because I have such a huge family and believe mee everybody showed up. But then again I know her parents helped her, but to be honest I don't even remember what the meal was.

Ridiculous for me isn't ridiculous for a lot of people... like $50+ is completely unattainable for me.

Usually in my area a lot of the halls can be anywhere from $100-$200 for weddings I guess depending on the extras and all of that. My sister n law just had her wedding at The Plaza and the plates were $400 each. Now thats ridiculous!!

RomaT-I'm right there with you! Especially since me and FH are paying for everything ourselves I refuse to go anywhere near over $50, especially with the size of my family.

I was in a wedding several years ago in Orange County. The bride's parents made sure everyone new that paid $200/person. The guest list was 400 people. $80k for food that was not all that good.

Im not exactly sure but I know the cake from some celebrity cake maker did the cake and that was included. Honestly the food was not even great, you basically just pay for the name and to say your wedding was at the Plaza. Its a beautiful place dont get me wrong but the food was not worth it!

OMG these prices are crazzy! I thought my 42 pp was a lot. In my experience, Some of the cheaper dishes can be the most yummy and the more expensive ones just tasted blah. My cousins wedding, their cake cost like over a grand, FOR A CAKE! I think it was from Charm City Cakes (cake boss tv show) and it tasted less than okay.

I'm going to get crap for saying this however.....

Just keep in mind, everyone has a budget. Be it $2000 or $100,000 for their wedding. Just because it may be ridiculous to one person doesn't mean it's ridiculous to the next.

For FH and myself, we are both in the Food & Beverage Industry and this is our time to treat our guests to some of our favorite things. It's how we make a living and an important aspect to us.

If I've worked hard to pay for this whole thing myself, please don't tell me my price per plate is ridiculous.

    Sorry, rant over.

That's sort of what I was trying to say with my post Sarah... though it may not have come out that way... by saying ridiculous for me (even though it's pretty average).

If you can afford it, go for it.

Right Roma? Heck, I'm the first to want to DIY what I can and save here and there so I can have some "ridiculous" stuff. We are having a BBQ for the Welcome Dinner. I bet it's going to be just as good as the food at my wedding. But they are good for different reasons. Oh well, to each their own Smiley smile

Wow, ours will be 70pp but it includes cake, open bar, appetizers, all the tables, linens, chairs, china, center pieces and lots more. Its an all inclusive place so its per person but not only food.

One thing to remember is that "cost per plate" doesn't mean the same thing everywhere. I think our cost per plate was about $125 for the luncheon after the ceremony. (Yes, that was one area in which we went high end!) However, because it was at a restaurant, that included venue rental, tables, chairs, linens, plates, glassware, flatware, food (including cake), alcohol, staff (including tips), and taxes. At a lot of places, the "per plate" cost would only have included the food, in which case it would have been a lot less.
