Potentially Outside the Box Venues

Kelsey, on August 16, 2017 at 2:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Happy hump day everyone! I have another venue question. FH has expressed that he would like a venue we can all stay at. We also want an outdoor ceremony with beautiful natural scenery. Hotels are an option, but I have not really found anywhere with the nature feel. Bed and breakfasts are an option but they are usually too small (even for 50 guests.) My sisters best friend is doing a camp ground, but I cant imagine sleeping in a tent or cabin before our big day. Resorts are really nice but usually too expensive. I would most prefer the ceremony and reception to be at the same place.

Does anyone have any general ideas I havent thought of?

I am located in Maryland and would consider the DMV area. Does anyone have any specific suggestions?

How difficult is it logistically to have the ceremony and reception two different places?

Thanks!

We rented out a YMCA camp for the entire weekend for our wedding. The camp is newly refurbished and includes all of their updated cabins (like nice cottages almost not your typical barely better than a tent cabin). The location has two outdoor ceremony spots facing the lake that the property is on and has a main lodge where our reception will be held. They do a decent amount of weddings so I'm not sure I would call is out of the box but it's definitely not your ordinary wedding venue.

In Delmarva, there are a lot of houses with expansive yard you can rent out that really have a more natural feel. That being said, remember that sparse = you bringing in absolutely everything (dance floor, chairs, tables, kitchen, bathrooms) and guest accommodations are usually not close.

I would just say in the development of your vision, don't forget that you are hosting guests and they should be hosted fully and properly.

@kate I will definitely look into it! That is about the biggest number of rooms I have heard of! Also, my reciprocal bridesmaid is getting married at a bed and breakfast in Fredericksburg!

@mrsbeetobe thanks for your input! I am definitely keeping my guests in mind. Many of them will be OOT hence part of why we want somewhere with overnight accomodations.

@kate yeah that is part of what I am worried about. My reciprocal bridesmaid's venue (I forgot what the name of it yet again) can only sleep 4 couples including the bride and groom, not even enough space for all of the wedding party. Fortunately, most of us live close enough to make the drive.

Any interest in the Eastern Shore? My venue is all outdoors and off the water and would not sleep enough of your guests, but I think there is a hotel somewhere that you could do reception at and the ceremony elsewhere. If interested.

@mdeasternshorebride Yes I would definitely consider the eastern shore. We are right on the other side of the water (western shore? Haha). Can I ask where you are having it?
