Postponing Our Wedding

Taylor, on February 5, 2020 at 6:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22
My FH and I due to a financial situation have to move our wedding back. This was a mutual decision. But ironically, last week or the week before we sent out our official wedding invitation for our old date. I have to call today to see what our new date will be. We are looking at the end of the year like October or November. How do we tell people the wedding has been moved? Should I sent out new invitation for the new date? Or just go through the list and ask them to just “amend” their current invitation? Thanks for the advice. As my mother said everything is fixable and workoutable. Lol. #TruckerWifeToBe

The first thing I’d do is call everyone and let them know you’ll be switching the date. I’d be concerned that out of town guests will have already made non-refundable travel arrangements for a wedding that’s two months away so let people know ASAP. Then send out new invites when you get closer to your new date.

No one has made arrangements yet but the very first thing is calling the venue. And then I can let people know.

I would call the venue and other vendors to see the date and then just informally let people know that the date has changed and that invitations will reflect the new dates. Could you do an email or electronic save the date?

I personally don’t feel the need to send another set of save the dates. I want to get the new date and tell people to just look out for our new wedding invitation. I spent a couple hundred dollars on the save the dates and invitations. But the main question is how tell people. Do you give ppl an explanation?

Personally I would just so they do not think you have problems. You do not have to send more STD's it was a suggestion. Sometimes postponing weddings is because there are problems with the couple. It is up to you entire how you want to handle the situation.

Id definitely send something formal-ish revoking the date. I guess it depends on how large/what your wedding is but if it was small/family you could do the call list. Since you know no one has set travel plans it sounds like your wedding is probably more intimate. But you may not have anticipated what all your guests have made arrangements for (babysitting, gifts, etc). But if you’re looking at October/November now it’s definitely too soon to send new invites even if you did finalize the date quickly. so I agree with Kristen you may want to consider doing an e-STD.

I do think you give some explanation but you can leave it vague “unforeseen circumstances”. Lol.

Our wedding is between 125-150 people most of them being family. And the other part are friends that are like family. There is a good percentage of older ones who don’t know about electronic invitations. So Evites isn’t the end all be all with everyone. I agree with the vague response. And I wouldn’t even send the new invites out. I’d send them in a couple of months.

Once you work out the venue you should absolutely make new invites. i would call all those that have already received/rsvp'd and let them know the date is changing. you don't have to give any specifics if you don't want to Smiley smile

Everyone has been contacted. Venue and vendors have all be moved, just waiting on our videographer to confirm. New invitation will be sent out in September.

I would call guests and let them know the change of date ASAP. When you finalize a new date, you can choose whether or not to send out a second set of invites. But right now you need people to know that the wedding you originally planned is not happening on the dates on the invite.
