Postponing my wedding

Jennifer, on June 5, 2020 at 1:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22
I need advice! What would you do? My original date was this September 19. I was looking at either June or September of next year. For my venue June is full and only available dates are either September 4, 2021 which is Labor Day weekend or September 11. July and August will be too hot! What would you do?

Ooooh tough one. I probably wouldn’t want my anniversary to be 9/11. I’d go with Labor Day weekend. I feel like holiday weekends can be tough if you have a lot of people coming from out of town because hotels and flights will be so much more expensive but if you send save the dates early enough and get a hotel block for guests then it should be okay.
I lived in New York for a while and 9/11 was so tough and still affects so many New Yorkers to this day so I couldn’t personally imagine celebrating my wedding that day.

I would pick labor day weekend as well! And I'm sure most of your guests will have that three day weekend, so more time for wedding celebrations with them.

Labor Day weekend for sure! It's a holiday weekend, so most people may have the time off. I personally would not get married on 9/11 because of the significance of the date now.

Hey! I'm actually getting married this labor day! Sep 5,2020. At first when my FH suggested that date, I turned it down. I thought that being a 3 day weekend, that hotels, and flights would be too expensive. We also took into consideration celebrating our anniversary every year on a holiday weekend. I ended up looking at different flights for our family flying in, and looked at various honeymoon destinations. To my surprise there was only like maybe a $5 difference between then and dates in October. I think since most kids are usually back in school by then, at least in California, that travel is down, therefore you find better deals on flights. Smiley smile

I would definitely do Labor Day over 9/11!! Labor Day might make it easier since people will have time off.

Honestly, I’d probably see if they have anything available in August. Yes, it’s hot, but it won’t be much different than the first half of September. That’s just my opinion. If you’re really set on the 4th or 11th, I’d personally pick the 4th.

I’d choose 9/4/2021. Your guests have more than enough time between now and then.

I am in the EXACT-ish boat as you! Our original date is 9/19/2020, we have recently reached out to our venue in hopes for the possibility of rescheduling. June, July, and August are already booked for 2021, September only had the 4th and 25th available for 2021. 25th is right before my bday... don't want anniversary to end up being combined with birthday. But was unsure about the 4th being Labor Day weekend. All of the feedback we got was, Labor Day weekend is pretty nice since most will have the holiday off, and will have an extra day. It would only suck if you have a lot of guests who usually go out of town for Labor Day, or work in businesses like retail who might have issues getting the day off.

It's a bit awkward to have your wedding day on 9/11, I would choose to have the wedding on Labor Day weekend, because more people will be free that time anyway, so it won't inhibit people from not being able to go.

In all reality, if you don't like either of those dates, the last weekend of August will not be much different, temp wise, than the first weekend of September... if that's your only deterrent from choosing a date in August.

I may not be in the majority here but the last thing I think of on Labor Day is a wedding. It's the last weekend before the summer weather disappears for more than half of the year for some. Beach is calling my name! If it were me, I would take 9/11. But like others have said, most travelers would have the Monday off so it might work out better for them.

I personally feel like 9/11 is a hard no. Labor Day weekend is great, bc people will have the extra day off. If people prioritize Labor Day travel over your wedding, then they don’t belong there Smiley smile A friend of mine got married that weekend, and they had a full guest list. We’re Columbus Day weekend, and we picked that Sunday. Would you and your fiancé be open to a Sunday wedding? For us it’s been great, bc Saturdays fill up so fast for vendors.

I would definitely book labor day over 9/11. Labor day also makes it easier for out of town guests to be off for your wedding since most people get the long weekend.

We have postponed our wedding 2 times now due to coronavirus. It was originally supposed to take place 4/25 but then we had to reschedule to 9/5 this year. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule our big wedding again. We are now having a microwedding Labor Day weekend in Savannah, GA this year which is out of town for all my guests. The hotels are a bit pricier, but no one has complained about it. Everyone understands that these are different circumstances and they just want to be at the wedding. I'm sure it will be the same case for you.

Thank you Cassandra! We have decided on September 4,2021. We couldn’t bare having our wedding day associated with September 11. I hope everything works out for you and your wedding!
