Postponing a Second Time

Veronica, on May 7, 2020 at 3:01 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4

Hello! Our wedding was supposed to be 4/11 but it was postponed. Planning the wedding was a bit stressful so leading up to it was not as exciting as I had hoped. But just when I was getting excited everything was put on hold. Although we were very upset we came to accept the new date of 7/24.

Now we are concerned that we will have to postpone a 2nd time. We reached out to our venue and have received some dates that are are all in the summer of 2021 on Friday's. I am numb to the whole idea of having an actual wedding now. But were only 25 days away from the April wedding when we decided to postpone so we already made all of our payments. That is not a reason that someone should want a wedding bu that is our predicament now. Is anyone else in the boat of having to postpone a 2nd time and how did you and your fiance handle it?

We live in the Chicagoland area. Our original date was April 25th and while we still got married on that day(with 8 guests), we postponed our big 350 guest wedding to September 13th. We had a call with our planner last week and she essentially said we could still go through with that but we would have to drastically cut down the guest list and have everyone wearing masks among other things. We really want the big wedding we’ve been planning for so long so we are postponing again to late summer/fall 2021 on a Friday or Sunday(price wise, it’s all we can get). At this point I just want to pick a date and be done with it. Life will not be completely normal until there is a vaccine so my dad is still a little apprehensive about 2021 but we just have to pick a date and then if we have to postpone again next year, it is what it is. And yes, states are opening up now but it’s only because their hospitals are more under control, not because the virus is gone. There’s a chance we can’t have large gatherings for the rest of the year. My husband and I are grateful that we were able to get married but we’re still so stressed about the wedding and while there’s really nothing we can do about it, this virus is just ruining everything lol. But also thankful that our families are safe and healthy!

We postponed from April 11th as well! New date is September 5th. I am thinking now we will have a small wedding with about 100 people in September if allowable. If it's not, we will work with our venue to postpone to next year. I am frustrated same as you since we are pretty much all paid off on everything. But I also hate having a wedding different than what I planned and don't want to postpone again since we want to just move forward with starting a family.

If you can, I would postpone again. You could always elope this year with family and have your big party at the new date like PP recommended

We were supposed to be married on 4/4, and we postponed to 8/15 thinking it was plenty of time. Now we're unsure about August, but it's looking better for our small gathering of about 50 guests. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Right now everything is still chaos, and it's hard to wait to postpone things anymore than we already have. Our plan is to do a ceremony with our families, whatever that looks like, then be done with it. I never wanted a huge event anyway.

    Hi Veronica,

I'm so sorry that you're having to postpone your wedding for a second time. It's normal to feel sad, frustrated, disappointed, angry, numb, etc. Feel all your feelings! In my opinion, when the dust settles and you've had a break from wedding planning (and worrying about COVID-19), you may be glad you celebrated your marriage with some sort of wedding or reception. The good news is that the new celebration can be whatever you want it to be, and you don't have to decide today!

As you can see from the PP, there are other couples in your same shoes. They're postponing twice or postponing once and rethinking their back-up plan. Here's a discussion with another bride, Emily, who was feeling like the whole process had become a nightmare:

Postponing wedding again because of Covid-19?

You are certainly not alone. Here's a couple of discussions with July brides that may be helpful:

My thoughts are with you, and I'm hoping you can make a decision that feels right for YOU! Smiley heart
