Postponed Wedding, Help!

Hey! so I had a wedding scheduled for this summer but chose to reschedule until January due to covid. I just hated feeling like anyone would be risking their health to come to my wedding. Anyways, My husband and I got married in a courthouse and wanted a formal wedding. However, now he is getting deployed and won't be back until around march of next year. So we have to reschedule again until later next year. It's not a huge deal to reschedule, but I am just so lost on how to appropriately go about a formal wedding over a year after we would have been married. What do the invitations look like, do we do a regular ceremony or maybe a vow renewal, can I still wear a wedding dress, do we do a "first dance"? I just need some ideas because I have no idea what to do. Thanks so much for your responses in advance, can't wait to hear some ideas Smiley smile

    If you still want to have a ceremony and not just a reception, it would be a vow renewal. You can still wear your dress, dance, etc. The only traditions that are typically frowned upon for vow renewals are showers and/or bachelor(ette) parties since you will already be married, however, those rules are pretty flexible for covid couples.

    First and foremost, congratulations! Considering DH will be deployed and not returning until March, I would plan it for a May/June wedding. Your invitation wording should let your guests know you're already married and the day you were married.

    Agree with this. Call it a vow renewal on your invitations. You can go as fancy or elaborate as you want. Skip the showers/bachelorette since those are for unmarried ladies. But you can wear any dress you want, have a first dance, etc.

    Thanks so much for the response! I definitely agree that skipping the bachelorette party is the way to go. That definitely clarified what’s acceptable and not acceptable! Smiley smile

    That’s a great idea, I saw some cute invitations that said “we tied the knot! Now come celebrate” I think that would be a super cute idea Smiley smile thanks!

    Hi Myrinda,

    I'm so sorry your plans changed! I think it is a great idea to wear your dress again. Not many brides get to wear their dress TWICE! I'm jealous. Same goes for the first dance! I imagine you are counting the seconds until your sweet guy is back from his deployment. I think you both absolutely deserve to dance at your reception.
