Postoned August Wedding

Amanda, on May 7, 2020 at 7:28 AM Posted in Community Conversations 2 35
This may be more for reassusrance. We have postponed our 8/22/2020 wedding for 8/27/2021 for next year. This is due to being uncertain if RI will still be following the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing and wearing a mask. I have thought it may be too soon to make the call but when speaking to venue, I was offered these dates and didn't want to miss the chance due to many other people rescheduling their wedding. Has anyone else rescheduled their August wedding? I am starting to feel bad for having to do so, but we are still planning to elope.

I’m and Southern IL bride here, and we originally had our wedding date on August 1st😔. We were getting close to the 90 days and everything got too much. We didn’t know how to celebrate with our family and friends in close proximity without fear of getting sick. So we just post poned our wedding to April 3rd, 2021.
    It’s bittersweet and wine helps 🥴😅😭 but 4-3-21 has a nice 💍 to it🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm in the Cape, so close to you. Ours is scheduled for august 15th, we cancelled the big wedding and will be getting married just us and a few others on the day in our backyard..we scheduled a big vow renewal for next year. I think you made a good decision! I know it won't make you feel any better cause telling myself the same thing doesn't make me feel better but still 💜

I've been trying to postpone since March, but my venue won't let us yet. It is super frustrating.

    Kenzie,
Are you in the RI/MA area? My venue that I am using made the transition smooth and were understanding and I could recommend to you if you happen to be looking for another venue. No venue should be giving difficulties during this difficult time.

    Amanda,

Nope, I am in Maryland. My fiance's entire family is from NY/NJ so they have told us they are not comfortable with coming. It's been really difficult working with them. They said they would decide a month before, which is horrible. Honestly, after how they've dealt with this, we've decided we are going to cancel when they allow us too, if not we are getting a lawyered involved. Our Governor had this in his Roadmap to Recovery:

Phase 1: Could start on May 15, 2020 and end on September 2, 2020

Phase 2: Could start on September 3, 2020 and end on December 31, 2020

Phase 3: Could start on January 1, 2021

We have at least 200 people invited and based on that information, a wedding will not be happening. My venue says its still too son...I tend to disagree with them on that.

I'm glad your venue was willing to work with you, and although you had to reschedule I'm sure it's a lot less stressful now.

Don't feel bad. I'm in NY and postponed my August 29, 2020 to August 21, 2021. I feel so much more relaxed about it now!

I'm in a different boat. We postponed our reception to August 16th and are going to go through with it whether we have 50 people or our original 200.

Hey i am in Maryland too. I have been following Governer Hogan very closely since this pandemic started and I am not aware of the timelines you listed. Where did you hear or see these projected dates?

So not sure if I would rely on this one article. I looked at the Governors plan and did not see those dates anywhere. It could be accurate but it could also be off. I cannot find any other media outlet or reports from the Governor's office predicting those dates or any other dates.

You would need to read the draft of the plan, not just what he shows when he is speaking. There is also a draft for education which was outlined today, and also reveals that same information.

Again, it does say tentative, so of course things can change. I just thought I would share what someone else shared with me. My friends venue actually gave the information to her to explain why they were cancelling all weddings until September.

Hi Amanda! I am in RI also and have postponed our 8/15/2020 wedding to 8/7/2021. I think at this point it was probably a safer option than taking the chance and dates are filling up fast. Sometimes I wonder if we act too quickly but the stress of holding off and having to scramble last minute is probably a worse feeling! Either way your day will be wonderful if you decide to elope and have the party later or hold off all together Smiley smile

Texas is allowed to have weddings with 25% occupancy, and we're under that. So we're probably going to go forward with ours as of now. Even if things happen and we can't have it again, we'd probably still have our families in a small get together. For us we don't want to leave wedding in the air for another year, so we'll do as we can.

Do you mind me asking what 25% occupancy would be for you? Is it based on the venue's maximum guest size?

Yeah, it's based off their max occupancy. Since we wanted the ballroom, they're allowing 25% of their max which is 100 folks. We won't have anywhere near that, so we feel pretty ok at the moment.

Oh okay! Makes sense. What phase of reopening are you all in? I'm in Maryland, which was hit much worse than Texas. So I'm sure it will be very different. But I'm just curious as to what other states are doing. Did your governor specifically address weddings? Or did your venue rely the information? Sorry so many questions!

Yeah, our governor is reopening a lot of the state, and while some cities like Houston, which is a port city and sees a lot of traffic in general have been hit harder, most of Texas hasn't truly. Most of us are still taking measures and staying inside if we can. But we're all cautiously looking forward. Abbott made a statement yesterday that weddings and funerals would be allowed:
