Post-Wedding FL Marriage License by Mail?

Stephanie, on May 31, 2017 at 9:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I got married in FL on 5/19/17. Today is 5/31/17. My wedding planner submitted the final license to the courthouse for me after the wedding (not exactly sure what day, as we had an elopement and ran off to vacation after). She said I would be mailed the final marriage license/certificate from the state. Wondering how long it took for anyone else to get theirs from the state of Florida?

Ready to change my name and get our lives started together!! Smiley smile

Thank you!

Hi Stephanie, congrats!! This will vary by state and county, so I'd call the county clerk for an update!

It varies by state, but I can tell you that at least in NJ, they don't send it until you contact them and request it. Despite the fact that I send a detailed email to all my couple telling them this, I get those calls too...."I haven't gotten my license"......"Did you contact the clerk that I sent you?"

    "No."

Google "how to get married in Florida" and find someone to call. Maybe Nancy will weigh in; maybe add her to your subject line?

In Florida, the wedding officiant has 10 days to file the marriage license with the county clerk. Once your marriage license is recorded by the county clerk, they usually send you 2 certified copies right away. However, if they are really busy it may take a couple of weeks for the license to arrive in the mail.

In Miami you can check if your marriage license has been recorded on the county website at:

    https://www2.miami-dadeclerk.com/mlsweb/LicenseSearch.aspx

If you got married in another county find the marriage license bureau website for that county, most counties do the same as Miami-Dade county. I hope this helps.

It is busy wedding season here on the Suncoast and it can take 4-6 weeks for them to mail you the certified copy. During slow wedding season it can take 2-4 weeks.

I've had couples call me at 6 weeks and refer them to the issuing courthouse.
