Post Elopement Ceremony & Reception

Kate, on June 20, 2020 at 5:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Due to COVID-19 we had to postpone our wedding, scheduled for May 17 to September. We ended up getting married on our original date, just us and our parents. We still want to have our ceremony and big reception to celebrate with our family in the fall. We haven’t told everyone yet about our elopement. Any advice on wording for the invites? I hate the thought of “vow renewals” 4 months after we got married. Any advice for something small we can still say at the alter- more for family and friends without redoing all of our vows? TIA!

I went to one last year where they didn’t say vow renewal but called it their wedding celebration

I agree with you. We won't be calling ours a vow renewal. Technically the invite will be from my parents, but it will read "the wedding of ...________ to ___________" since it will be still be our wedding. I am not changing my name so I think this will be fine.

    Hi Kate,

Congrats on your wedding! I'm so sorry you had to change your plans, but you are not alone. Keeping a positive attitude (through a funny announcement) can only help during this unprecedented situation.

Here are a couple of discussions with postponement examples:- Coronavirus Postpone Announcements- Website Wording for Postponed Weddings due to COVID-19You'll also find more information (less funny) here: How to Word Your Wedding Postponement Announcement. There's also a glass half-full perspective piece: “My Wedding Was Postponed Due to Covid-19, but Now I Get a ‘Do-Over’”.However, I do love the first suggestion on this thread as well. You could also recite your vows for one another in front of your guests and then head straight to the reception. I can't wait to hear what you decide.I'm wishing you the best of luck! nLxcI1gBilPA_DYsaorCTBp6X1DzLckXmXiZsyyg

This is my favorite wording!! I think it perfectly communicates that you've exchanged vows but haven't done the big celebration yet!
