Plus size Brides: Sleeves or No Sleeves??

Private User, on March 31, 2016 at 2:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 60

I've tried on gowns with thick straps and lace that would cover my back and some with sleeves, but I feel like they made my chubby arms even chubbier looking. I just want to know if others think sleeves draw more negative attention to the arms rather than strapless?

I'm not afraid of strapless gowns, but I also feel like I would lIke a little more coverage. I just don't want my arms to look like they're stuffed in a sleeve. And I don't really like the jackets or bolero's.

Any plus size brides having the same dilemma? Did you go with the sleeves or the strapless??

P.S. Curves are beautiful! Smiley smile

I know you said you don't like jackets, but what about maybe a pretty shawl if you want more coverage?

Same. My arms are one of the things I am most self conscious about and I feel like sometimes sleeves make them look worse, like stuffed sausages. I ended up doing strapless.

I did a sleeve, but mostly because I'm so uncomfortable in sleeveless. I always feel like my boobs are about to fall out and I don't want that on my wedding day.

Sleeves for this plus size gal! The dress is strapless, I got the bolero from a Etsy seller from Poland. I'm so happy with how it came together Smiley smile

ETA I felt stuffed in three quarter sleeves and long sleeves, this is over my elbow and it's the perfect length for some reason.

I will be doing halter straps. I could never do strapless because I'm larger chested but I don't particularly like sleeves.

Mines strapless. Sometimes I think adding the sleeves makes people look bigger, but it depends on body.

I went in thinking I wanted sleeves, but I ended up getting cap like sleeves. I'm pretty self conscience about my arms but I felt like it looked nice. You just want to feel comfortable...

I think it depends on the person. I would try on all types and see which one you feel best in.

Thank you all for your feedback! @ldwed that looks beautiful! @elyse I feel the same way about feeling like a stuffed sausage. I'm a size 18-20 and when I tried on the strapless I felt like my girls were pushed up to my chin and I was just uncomfortable (maybe because the dress wasn't fitted to me) but then I tried on a dress with sleeves to my shoulders and I didn't like that either! Maybe I just need to keep looking, the one is out there.. Lol.

I so wish I would have tried on sleeves before finding my dress. I ended up with strapless. I do not like my arms very much and in some of the pro pics I did not like how my arms looked!

But go with what feels comfortable! You will look beautiful in whatever you choose!

I am 16 and I have tried on strapless and some with sleeves. I didn't like the sleeves like I imaged I would. I'm pretty sure I'm going for strapless. I did try on one that I liked with some sheer cap sleeves that was pretty and flattering. A lot of sleeved ones made me like 15+ years older...not fun

Thank you Samantha! I'm attaching a photo of me in my dress before alterations because my boobs were pushed up to my chin also. She took in the sides of the boobs and after she made the waistline higher the boobs fit better and came down lower. I don' t love that my boobs are lower, but it beats having them under my chin! With that I can move my arms much more comfortably also. Huge difference. Look how uncomfortable and weird I look in this pic

@ldwed you do look uncomfortable but I think it looks great without the sleeves too!! But all in all it does come down to what you feel most comfortable in. When I'm uncomfortable you can see it all over my face.

I am older, so my skin doesn't bounce back like it used to. My upper arms are 21" in diameter. I am wearing 3/4 sleeves, but they are mostly sheer. The picture is before alterations.

I might have some off-shoulder drop sleeves added to my dress (probably not the proper term) because I think they're soooo pretty on some dresses, but I won't be adding anything to hide a part of my body. We're our own worst critics--all these girls that comment on their arm fat make me laugh because I literally never notice it in their pictures but it's one of the first things I notice in my own.
