Plus-size brides.... garters- ack!

mlw, on May 5, 2015 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

So what are you all doing?? I tried the stretch lace, as you walk it s-l-o-w-l-y falls down :\ Then, I tried a velvet one- it STAYED! Buuut, it's also made my chubby little leg look a little like a sausage Smiley sad Then, I tried the sating with chiffon on either side, and it slipped down, just not as quick.... soooo, then I finally tried a plain satin one, and it was "ok", didn't slip that much, not as snug as the velvet, but I didn't look like a sausage, either. I guess I'm just turned off by the cliche'ness of it. It's the same ol same ol from the 19-- what?? I was hoping for something NEW, inventive, different. I bought the velvet one, hoping maybe I'd lose some weight, or with the whole thigh highs and stuff it would be that noticeable. Plus, it was on clearance!! Just seeing what everyone else is doing, if they're having this problem, and possibly get some new ideas Smiley smile

I'm not even doing a toss, but I wanted one. I thought you know bustier, pretty panties, thigh highs, it would complete the bridal look, and be "sexy".... I think I thought wrong Smiley sad

Hmm I haven't even tried mine on. The thought had never crossed my mind. Guess I should go dig that sucker out and put it on my thunder thighs.

A friend of mine got an adjustable set from Amazon and she liked it. I didn't want one, I just didn't see the point and honestly DH wouldn't have even noticed if I had one on (to me, why have the added discomfort if its not necessary).

This right here is one of the only wedding things that I have been deliberately putting off out of embarrassment. I haven't even talked to FH about whether we're even doing a garter toss, but I have a feeling he'll want to. It's a lucky thing guys don't see us the way we see ourselves sometimes!

Why don't you just put it on right before you are going to show it off or toss it? No one but your spouse will see it anyway!

I will be skipping it all together. I don't need any added friction there. All of my undergarments that day are going to be function over fashion and I plan on telling FH that so he doesn't get his hopes up.

I found an Etsy seller that custom makes garters, and the price is not too bad

@elyse - I 100% agree. I was thrilled when I found a pair of ivory plain panties at the Victoria's Secret outlet and declared them my wedding day panties. I showed them to FH and he was all disappointed and was like "those are your wedding day panties?" I said YES! I need comfortable panties that day, but don't worry those are just wedding day panties, not wedding night Smiley winking.

I am skipping it all together. I have never understood the reason behind it. I looked hard to find a modest dress that didn't look like I was showing everyone my body, but still looked nice. I didn't even want a strapless gown as that is too revealing to me(yes I am the woman at a pool who has a skirt suit and a one piece so I don't show too much skin). So why would I want FH climbing around under my dress and lifting it up past my thigh to pull clothing off me? I say if you don't like it skip it.

Get the weird sticky stuff that they sometimes use on undies, I got one with that on it from Etsy & it stayed the whole time. I had 1 to throw & 1 that I kept on.
