So our March wedding will have a rooftop ceremony near downtown Orlando, followed by a reception less than 2 miles away. Of course, I have to provide chairs for both locations. To make matters worse I'm obsessed with chiavari chairs, and those go for $5/chair to rent. Spoke with a chair vendor and he suggested I get the chairs for the ceremony and for a small fee they can transfer the same chairs to the reception venue once ceremony is over. They need about an hour for the transfer plus he can rent them for $3 per chair. I am doing a cocktail hour in the outdoor terrace right next to the reception venue (it's like an urban terrace very cool). So the cocktail hour would give time for the transfer but I'd risk my guests peeking inside the venue to see the guys setting up the same exact chairs they sat on during the ceremony! Lol tacky move or smart move?? Please help! Be honest!

Do it! What does it matter if they know they are the same chairs, which I don't think they would even realize.

It’s definitely not a tacky move. Guests understand that at weddings sometimes things need to be set up after the fact. No biggie.

Another thing you can do if your ceremony won’t be too long, is having people stand. It gives off a less formal feel. But again only if you’re ceremony isn’t going to be a long one! It would save you the money of even having to transfer chairs over. Just a thought!
