Playing Musical Chairs to Save Big $$$

Kimberly, on April 21, 2015 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

So our March wedding will have a rooftop ceremony near downtown Orlando, followed by a reception less than 2 miles away. Of course, I have to provide chairs for both locations. To make matters worse I'm obsessed with chiavari chairs, and those go for $5/chair to rent. Spoke with a chair vendor and he suggested I get the chairs for the ceremony and for a small fee they can transfer the same chairs to the reception venue once ceremony is over. They need about an hour for the transfer plus he can rent them for $3 per chair. I am doing a cocktail hour in the outdoor terrace right next to the reception venue (it's like an urban terrace very cool). So the cocktail hour would give time for the transfer but I'd risk my guests peeking inside the venue to see the guys setting up the same exact chairs they sat on during the ceremony! Lol tacky move or smart move?? Please help! Be honest!

I wouldn't care if I noticed the chairs being moved. As long as I don't have to bring my own chair, I'm good. Go for it!

At first I thought this would be a "we don't have enough chairs for everyone at the same time" post. This I think is fine. Even if people see the guys moving the chairs I doubt they'll think its tacky

I was so worried this was going to be a "I invited 100 people, but am only providing 75 chairs to save money" post and was going to be a shit show. Whew.

I say go for it. I don't think guests would think twice about it if they do notice the transfer.

I thought you were going to make people play musical chairs so that you didn't have to bring enough chairs.

But I don't think people would notice. Or care for that matter. How would you go about getting them moved? That's a lot of chairs to move in a short time frame and set up accordingly.

Yea it's gonna be a lot the company will handle moving, set up, take down. There's also elevators at the ceremony venue so I imagine with a dolly they would just stack them?? The vendor claims he's done other events at the ceremony site too but I will further investigate..

As long as I wasn't the one that had to move the chair - go for it.

No, it's smart. I went to an outdoor country wedding on a ranch and they even asked all the male guests to help move chairs. it was no big deal. I love the bride and groom so why would I judge!

Smart move! I've been to a couple of weddings where the rooms were changed over (from ceremony to reception) during the cocktail hour and items were moved around. No biggie. I love chiavari chairs as well they are just out of my budget.

Go for it. If my family found out I paid to have chairs rented at $5 per chair for different places they would be pissed at me.

I agree.... who cares if the guest see them setting up the chairs. More than likely they will be too busy enjoying the cocktail hour anyway.

I think that you would have plenty of time to get things moved and situated. I am definitely a frugal bride. However, if I was a guest and did a sneak peak, I would just think that they are still setting up. I doubt that I would notice that they were from the ceremony site. And if I did notice, I am not sure that I would care.

PHEW I also thought you meant the game.

This sounds like a good idea, as long as there's no delays in the transfer. Those chairs aren't overly comfortable which is why they're normally just used for ceremony (they are pretty!) and banquet chairs are used for... the banquet.

That being said, if something goes wrong with the transfer (ie traffic etc) then does your venue happen to have other chairs on site? Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I have moved my own chair and did not care a bit. If they will move them for you and the guests are enjoying cocktails than nobody will even notice
