Plated vs Buffet

My venue is discouraging this and says people won't be able to be served at the same time so they don't recommend it. They suggest a plate with both a small piece of steak and a small piece of fish. Am I trying to make this too simple or should the different entrees not be that big of a deal?

I would do buffet in this case.

Having a duet plate shouldn't be any easier than having your guests choose what they want to be served. If you do buffet at least they will be able to pick what they want.

Duet is best, it saves you lots of work with determining who ordered what

I've seen duet plates in NY as well but I've never been to a buffet wedding on Long Island. The cocktail hour offers so much food and has passed hors d'oeuvres and food stations that it would be redundant to have a buffet. Plated it usually is.

I've only been to one wedding that was buffet and I'm just not a fan. Your guests are dressed up, in heels, and you're gonna make them wait in line to get their food? I dunno just not the vibe I wanna give off at a wedding.

Probably half the weddings I've been to have had a duet plate as part of a 4-5 course dinner. I'm from right outside of DC.

OP count me in as another one who thinks your venue is being lazy. If they have enough staff to serve a duet plate to everyone, they have enough staff to serve a plate with other types of food on it.

I actually wanted buffet, but it's considerably more expensive at my venue than plated is. So I'm doing plated with entree choices on the RSVP card.

On the duet plated - I'm in a Chicago suburb and they're a thing here. Depending what it is, I'm ok with it. The last wedding I went to had shrimp and steak for the duet. I don't eat shrimp or any seafood. The steak portion was delicious and huge though, so I definitely didn't go hungry.

We are having a plated meal. FH and I personally don't like the this table goes, then this one and the line that comes with the buffet. This was the better choice for us.

Also, why is it an issue? They should easily have enough staff? I have never heard of this. The entire room will all have food within 10 mins for us.
