I've been doing some price comparisons the last few days to get the best deal and Dollar Tree seems to be the best choice. I've been doing some price comparisons the last few days to get the best deal and Dollar Tree seems to be the best choice. I've ordered from them before, so I trust them over some random seller I've never bought from. I'm ordering the dinner plates, dessert plates and the silver flatware. I figured I'd reach out to you guys before I take the plunge.

Has anyone used the silver flatware from Dollar Tree? The reviews on the site are positive and "durable" was mentioned in nearly every review. I just don't want them breaking as guests are trying to eat.

We compromised on nice plastic plates like the ones pictured, but inexpensive stainless steel flatware: you can get forks for $1.85 a dozen, knives for $3.64 a dozen, and spoons for $1.18 a dozen. Our theory was that the plates were fine so long as they looked nice and were strong enough to hold the food, but that plastic cutlery isn't sharp enough to cut anything and breaks easily. And given that we could wash and resell the stainless steel flatware afterward, it didn't end up being any more expensive than plastic.

Can I just be the bitch for a moment and just say do you know what I pick up a dozen of every time I walk along my beach? Plastic knives and forks and spoons. Do you know what happens to marine animals when they ingest too much plastic? Plastic never goes away. It breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces and is then ingested by animals and marine life.

At least paper plates biodegrade. Renting silverware means it can be reused. It's not just being dumped in the trash.

At least look into the biodegradable cornstarch type stuff. It might be a little more expense but it doesn't destroy the environment.

I'm kind of with Nicola here. It's really strange to see so many folks using plastic when it's really awful for the environment and is literally a one use thing. Saving where you can is understandable, but ick. It never goes away.

(Remember those awful commercials for disposable dinner plates a few years back? Save time! throw it away! I couldn't believe someone was marketing that)

FutureMrsDean and everyone else planning on the plastic route, I get it and I'm really not trying to be judgy but please reconsider and look into renewable or reusable options.

If you want to go disposable to for something like this

    http://www.thewholeleafco.com/page/2/disposable-party-plates-tableware/

A friend used these and not only did they look super cool but they are completely biodegradable and Eco-friendly.

Edited to add: unlike the poster above I am being judgy. I see what this plastic crap does to our environment every single day.

Bitch on, Nicola. You're entitled. Sorry ladies, this just isn't one of my fights. Plus, I already bought my disposables and am on to the next item on my checklist.

Wonderful to use plastic wears for it's ease. Besides it's cheaper to avail and can be use over and over again without having to worry that it will break whenever you use it. Personally, i would recommend to you the interlocking utensils - Icup and Iplate https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/797097782/icup-and-iplate . It's the most comfortable way to get and hold the food at at the same time. Now your guests will enjoy eating with ease even when they take their kids with them.
